I think Mercedes originally came from a daughter’s name and the auto engineer father wanting to name something after her.
My favorite is when someone chooses to name a girl with a name sounding like Portia but spells is closer to Porsche, but never exactly the same.

In several cultures, especially Spanish-speaking ones, Mercedes has been a common name for many centuries. I wasn’t aware Germans/Austrians used it as well, but it’s very old indeed.

Oh I know!!! I rode a 100cc dirt bike in junior high, and got a 250cc when I turned 40. The changes in ‘getting air’ was interesting. On that 100 I tried to get air as much as I could, which on a 100 wasn’t that often, and yet with that 250, getting air seemed to be a purpose for its existence. There were a few times I nearly freaked out. But I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything. I could hit near 60 across my yard. ZOOM_ZOOM!! But trick riding? I fear gravity far too much as I’d gotten older…
