I’ve run into an issue with my front end BTA hydration and my computer mount. I purchased the FastTT triple stack and single rear bottle for Ironman Kalmar last year, but the stack was so high it would put my top-bottle computer mount directly under my nose. My workaround was to have my bike computer on basically an extension on the basebars that was underneath my bottles so I’d have to crank my head to the side to look at my computer. Made it work based on RPE and average 20 minute power, but it was annoying as hell. so I thought a tririg polymount. Now my new issue is that FastTT and Tririg and standard bottles aren’t optimized for each other.
I tried flipping it upside down, doing bottles backwards, tried reorienting the metal platform (between the bottles) that secures bottle cages… and this was the best I could come up with. the xlab torpedo is so long that it hinders the swing arm of the tririg poly mount. So I moved it backwards and threw two oversized nuts to keep everything flat and level. The fastTT bolts are not meant to have 7.5mm spacer between the cage and the metal platform on the top.
now my concern is the ~150mm bolts that run through the plastic tower don’t have enough “bite” to safely keep the whole thing secured; what I’m thinking about doing now is shaving off 7.5mm from the tower then sanding it. Frankly if I can figure out how to trim 3mm from the bolts without ruining the threads I’d like to bring the entire stack down just a touch. But before I do irreversible damage I wanted to get some thoughts before I proceed. I want the computer positioned where it’s at right now and I only need two bottles up there annyways even for Ironman.
As a side note I don’t know if this is normal but when a standard bottle cage is mounted to the tririg polymount, the “lip” overlaps on the three prongs. It doesn’t fit. So I don’t know if Tririg needs us to purchase their specific cages for spacing or what. It’s quite annoying.
