Coffee recomendations

it’s pricey but ONYX is very good. I love Lavazza, but also went cheaper and enjoyed Community House from Kroger

They’re very expensive!

But then again I’m a tight Scotsman

I’ve tried many coffees over the years and this is my favourite. I buy it in Lidl here in the uk and it’s only £4.00

Hands-down the best bean out there right now is Intelligentsia out of Chicago/US. I burr grind whole bean and use a Chemex and holy god mother of all things holy once you get a good cup it’s impossible to go back to something cheaper. I never knew coffee could be that good.

Bold statement. There are a ton of smaller roasters out there roasting amazing beans as well.

Based in Oz, we tend to try and buy organic beans when possible, really enjoying this at the moment

A friend of mine started this company–they make extraordinary coffee and its really potent: http://www.blackmedicine.com/ I highly recommend it!

Which blend do you like most? Coffee or espresso? Heard that recommendation too many times now to not try it, especially being in the Chicago burbs.

Picked up some counter culture when I was last in Asheville, big fan!

Yeah! I second Intelligentsia esp their Black Cat espresso blend. They also support the Intelligentsia racing series in Chicago every year, which is on the NRC. Support the people that support the sport!

Yes, if you’re in the burbs then next time ur downtown or Lakeview or Logan Square I’d recommend trying a cup of coffee at their shop first and have your mind blown. Their espresso is good, but not earth shaking like the coffee. The only reason I got good at making my own is constantly trying to find a way to make my home brew taste like what I got at the shop. I buy their cheapest single origin and whatever special blend they have.

I have a Hario Skerton and a Porlex.

I find the Hario extremely frustrating to use. The Porlex is far better in every way.

I also found this to be true, but I now also have the Skerton Pro and it addresses all of the problems of the regular Skerton. I like the Pro slightly more than the Porlex.

No judgment here. I’m a big fan of Dunkin Donuts coffee, so there.
