Beta Garmin 5.68 (now 6.0) for 530/830 has just what outdoor workouts needed

running a 530 with the current firmware

Confirmed I’m selecting the data field as follows:

  • Workouts
  • Target (at bottom of list)

and that gives me 3 sec power:

And under Settings > System > Data Recording these are the settings:

  • Recording Interval = 1 sec
  • Power Averaging = include zeros

Those settings are only thing I can think of related to the power display.

just checked my settings and they are identical to yours.

How are you feeding the workout to your Garmin? My workouts are coming from TrainingPeaks or Garmin Connect, and the steps have a power range (not a single target power).

Well you could call Garmin, but I would first try creating a simple workout in Garmin Connect say something like 10 minutes at zone 2 and then sync to 530 and load/start to see if it’s the workout.

FWIW, here’s the custom workout screen I’ve settled on (for now). It uses layout 5-B. I’d prefer to have the Workout Comparison field directly below Target, with Heart Rate and Cadence on the very bottom but there isn’t a layout like this.

  • Time to Go
  • Target
  • Cadence
  • Heart Rate
  • Workout Comparison

where are you sync’ing your workouts from?

When I sync from TrainingPeaks, Target displays 3s Power. When I sync from TR, it displays Avg Power. Seems to be how the TR workout is sent to the Garmin API.

Sounds like a request is in order to TR to tweak things vs it being on the Garmin end (even thoughit appears the Garmin update broke something that was working…)
