There was a thread about 3.0 w/kg being the middle of the bell curve for TR users in their 40s.
Really dude…there’s no need to tell me to lose weight when I’m actively working on that.
What the fuck.

I’m not telling you you need to lose weight, I am telling you you are far from average FTP wise…
He is smack dab in the middle of the bell curve….
Nice progress, Frank…always feels good to hit a milestone like avg. 20mph for a longer ride.
Hey! I’m pretty fast! (For being in my 40s )
Almost 40 and at 192cm definitely on the taller side. Did a road bike 10 mile TT last week on an outdoor road track (no drafting). Mywindsock reckons an effective CdA of 0.227. Was wearing a skinsuit but normal road helmet. Systemsix with 64mm wheels but not much other optimisation. Next nearest guy pumped out over 400w, similar height and build.
Hello all. Just did my first long sustained effort in probably a year. Haven’t trained at all since last summer.
Kit: MTB shorts, loose fitting MTB top
Gear: Un-aero drop bar gravel bike on un-aero wheels on 35c Panaracer GK’s @ 55 psi (BW of 195lb), one bottle
Surface: all gravel
285w and still shy of 20 mph!
Not sure why you are dropping the frowny face?
Ditch the flappy clothing for a single, simple change and you are totally there.
On gravel, too? You were cruising
Totally. In kit I probably would have picked up some speed. I still can’t deny that I’m a 193cm sail on this frame.
Forget the sail narrative, rough roads and gravel require more power.
That looks like a slightly uphill segment too. Not sure why you are handicapping yourself (clothing, surface, gradient) in search of a 20mph average? Change just one of those things and you’d comfortably be over 20mph for the effort.
You call 193cm a sail? I’m 197. No excuses!
I just thought 20 mph all day @ that wattage. Been riding in MTB kit mostly these days for comfort.
Hey guys
Looking for an advice: I want to switch my handlebar for more aero position.
I am wondering regarding integrated stems:
Option 1: 135mm with 12° stem angle
Option 2: 120 with 17 angle
What would you go for? Thanks a lot!
Whatever a fitter says is best for you after seeing you. I don’t think anyone could properly answer that on line. Someone in the The Bike Fitting Mega-Thread - Equipment - TrainerRoad thread however, might give you a steer but I wouldn’t guarantee it.
If you’re unsure tbh I’d just get a couple of eBay specials in the two lengths to try them out.
Once I was happy with bar width and stem length then look at spending lots for a fully integrated cockpit.
You also need to factor HB width into the equation…also, what are the dimensions you currently running for your HB / stem.
If you could post some side shots of you on the bike, that would help give us a better idea where you currently are in terms of fit.
And handlebar reach, since that can vary as well.
Thanks everyone for the reply! I had two bikefit already, I just think I could go more aero. I am an above average power-athlete and I can stay on the drops for all the duration of a long flat ride.
That’s why I believe I can take a more aggressive position.
My handlebar at the moment is a 7 degree X 110m
I was wondering if more angle would be better than a longer stem. That’s why I was asking if 12 degree X 135 is “more aggressive” than 120x17 degree
Again, thanks!
