Auto adaptations?

I just got back into TR after not using it for around 6-8 months. Before I cancelled I feel like I got an adaptation recommendation very often. Now, after being back for 2-3 weeks l, I don’t think I’ve seen the window for adaptation recommendations pop up once? But I’ve noticed that I think they are happening on their own. For example I did a 2 hour ride yesterday followed by a 30 minute run. For today it gave me a RED rest day. It originally had a 1:20 run but it automatically switched it to a 20minute recovery run. Why isn’t there optional adaptations anymore? Is this a new feature or are my settings off? Training load is set to one notch above balanced, RLGL on and adapt workouts set to ON.

for me still works fine. If the tool thinks I need a plan modification, a little pop up is shown suggesting one or multiple adjustments, which you can/should either accepts or skip.

Do you have “automatically accept adaptations” turned on in adaptive training settings?

I didn’t see that setting anywhere I looked! Thank you so much :+1::+1::+1:

My theory is that if I put in good data, then TR generates a proper plan based on that, and I execute each workout as prescribed, there should be no adaptations needed. Adaptations would indicate either there is something wrong with the plan, or I’m not completing the workouts as prescribed. That’s my theory anyway. I get recommended adaptations after about 1/2 my workouts for reasons that are a mystery to me.

I can’t wait to see the informed responses to your theory. *grabs popcorn

If only physiology were that simple! If we were robots, training would be predictable—but thankfully, we’re not. Real human physiology is influenced by countless factors, many of which we can’t even measure yet. That’s why training that doesn’t adapt to those influences isn’t designed for real athletes—and won’t produce the best results.

Right, but exactly how does TR know how to adapt if I’m completing the plan workouts exactly as prescribed? What data/information does it use to decide that they are too hard or too easy and changes need to be made? Does it only go by the end of workout survey responses, or something else?

In other apps, there are periodic tests during a plan and the results of those tests change the plan. Tests are not ERG workouts because the results must depend on the individuals performance, not be the regulated output of ERG mode.

TrainerRoad uses all of the data we recieve from your rides (including but not limited to your post-workout survey responses), it’s understanding of how you have responed to training in the past (from it’s analysis of your entire training history), and it’s understanding of scientific training principles, to inform adaptations.

How each individual responds to training and how we repsond to specific training stimuli is different. We have seen this in the data we have collected from hundreds of thousands of athletes. Likewise, how a person respsonds to training may change over time. TrainerRoad is able to detect these changes (in fitness and response to training) with much greater granuality than we can, and suggests adaptations in response.
