Anyone use Sun Sleeves?

Ditto for me. Update with your impression, please.

I wonder if anyone knows of any long sleeve jerseys and bib tights that are made out of the same material as normal summer jerseys and shorts?

All I can find are things marked for fall/winter/spring. It would be nice to have some sleeves built in  But I guess arm sleeves and leg sleeves are cheaper in the long run.

Assos makes LS summer jerseys I know

Does anyone wear a neck gaiter? I live in Texas and am considering it for the back of my neck. I usually get started around 6:30am and aim to finish with a 3-4 hr ride. In August that means I could start at 85F and end up at 95F. Going to try sleeves this year. Main concern is getting too hot with a neck gaiter and sun exposure.

I dunno.

Sun sleeves seem really uncool.

Every year I get super tanned from April through July. Then in August I go to tropical destination, and everyone on the dive boat get see my awesome tan lines and get super jealous.

I’ve been wearing a neck gaiter since the COVID thing started - pull it up when I stop at lights or get near people. I have a few from Buff https://buffusa.com/buff-products/men/multifunctional-headwear/coolnet-uv-plus/black/119328.999 and a few from DeSoto https://www.desotosport.com/products/skin-cooler-headtube They’re both decent for blocking UV on sunny days.

Okay, I got them. Loved the material - very thin, but apparently the average cyclist has the arms of a 12-year old because they were way too tight, and unfortunately the large is out of stock.

So does Ornot.

Bummer. FWIW, L for me is perfect - not too tight and no slippage (no major guns just not slight). I hope for you they’re back in stock soon

I live in southern California and use them pretty much year-round. They don’t bother me even on the hottest days. I use white ones from Pearl Izumi. My current pair are around 3-4 years old and are in great condition. I made the mistake once of wearing some mountain biking. They became dingy white/brown. I stick to sunscreen when I ride my MTB.

Better to be jealous than getting cancer treatments. The sunsleeves I wear are really good about allowing wind through so they aren’t like winter arm warmers. Like any cycling in the hot months, when you stop they are warm but when moving it’s fine. I don’t even notice anymore. Same with with the neck scarf/gaiter I wear.

I’ve had enough cancer treatments for my lifetime and really don’t want anymore.

I know, I was joking. :slightly_smiling_face:

Bought a pair of PI sun sleeves, so far I’ve been impressed.

My forearms are both burning as I type this. I need sun sleeves for sure. Sunscreen is not cutting it. Any particular brand that works better than another? I have arm warmer for winter rides, just to hot for those during summer heat.

I like my Bontragers. But that’s the only brand I have tried.

I bought a pair of the Velocio arm screens based on this thread. I’m 6ft 190lbs and the largest size was too tight. The bands that hold them in place hurt my arms.

Having said that, I gave them to my wife and she loves them. We spent a week in Boulder and she wore them every ride. They’re thinner than the PI ones I purchased and have a nice cooling effect.

I don’t know how you folks wear sun sleeves? For me, it’s like adding an extra heat lamp. It may be all in my head, but I feel like my arms suddenly become the hottest part of my body…

Of course, this may be only once I’ve reached a certain level of dehydration on an all day ride. To be fair, they felt fine when I was still sweating and evaporating like normal.

I definitely prescribe to the lather the sport labeled sunscreen on at least an hour before I start riding school of thought. Seems to do a better job of getting “into” my skin that way and lasts much longer than applying to already sweaty arms.

I have a pair of Desoto Coolwings which I love. They definitely keep me as cool or cooler than bare skin (a quick squirt from my water bottle when temps get really high), and have the added benefit of not needing dodgy sunscreen. I have some sleeves from Pearl Izumi, which I use sometimes, but I definitely prefer the coolwings.

I also use a lightweight neck gaiter thing for back of neck coverage because it’s usually the part of my body that tans/burns the most on longer rides in the summer, even when I do slather on the sunscreen.

Hi, just started Light Therapy for eczema, so no embracing the tan lines for me this summer… anyone use Sugoi Arm and Leg Coolers? They’re on offer on one of the sites?

I used them all the time back in 2019. I got some funny comments when I was wearing them on the arms and legs in 38deg C temperatures. I was really comfortable but it was also right in the middle of chemotherapy. They are my favoured arm/leg/knee warmers at other times too as when the temperature changes and it hots up they stay comfortable.
