Anyone use Sun Sleeves?

Sounds like what I expierence are you in Spain?

Concur on the MTB issue and I do the same

Even the lightest base layer under a short sleeve sounds hot. I’ve been wanting a summer ultra light weight long sleeve jersey.

Virreinato de Nueva EspaƱa otherwise known as Alta California or more commonly these days, Northern California

I use Assos Summer arm protectors they are perforated allowing air flow to the skin. When its uber hot like someone mentioned you don’t notice unless stop but when it’s really hot you dont notice the arm protecters. I have never felt uncomfortable will using them. Sun screen or Sun arm protectors are a worthwill investment.

If you feel hot when you first put on the sun sleeves, douse them in water. They’ll be cool while you get started and once you get moving, the wind should keep you comfortable.

I regularly use Arm Sleeves when I have to work in the sun, it can prevent direct sunlight from reaching my skin and feels much cooler. Use Bucwild sports compression arm sleeve when playing baseball or cycling, very satisfied with it. The size fits me well and is very comfortable.

I’ve got a summer-weight long sleeve jersey that works great when I’m in the mountains in Colorado regardless of how hot it is. But it’s pretty much unbearable in the mid Atlantic humidity if it gets over 75F.

The cooling effect works entirely through evaporation, so it makes a certain kind of sense.

I just got a pair of pearl Izumi. You have to soak them and they stay wet/damp for about 30-45min. Otherwise they are too hot. It’s about 90-100F where I am. I pull them down eventually if I can’t soak them again bc of no water sources.

I have a few pairs. Generally I would advise getting white and UPF 50. pear Izumi are a bit thicker and therefore not the best for super hot days. The Castelli are the least insulating and what I wear in oppressively hot Houston. So much easier than lathering up sun block and very effective. Anytime I see a good brand on sale I pull the trigger. Great addition to you summer kit.

I would recommend the arm sleeves of B-Driven Sports, I’m using it and am very happy with it. It protects my hands from direct sunlight and feels so much cooler.

Yes! Because of not doing a good job with sun protection in my youth, plus a decade of living in equator in Africa and a few more at high altitude in US state of Utah I have had five spots cut off me and the last being cancerous.

This was just today!

:hushed: I hope they got it in time and you heal well!

I’ll be digging out mine, not because it’s sunny here (it’s the exact opposite at the moment) but they are the perfect weight for temps just below 15deg on fast group rides and fit my puny arms well.

Related to sun protection: Does anyone have any advice for face protection over long days? I’ve done a few rides that are 3-5 hours and my sunscreen doesn’t last that long. I can stop and reapply if it’s just a training ride, but some of these race scenarios leave me with chapped lips and more freckles on my already freckled face. I wear a cycling cap to shade the upper part, but I frequently come home with a sunburned chin, despite my best efforts.

I use this one on my face in Houston with good results.

OK, I’ve used that one before but switched to mineral based sunscreens. Maybe I should pick up another bottle. I still get roasted after a few hours and sweat off the sunscreen and get burnt.

I’m thinking of a race I did a few weeks ago, and my lips and face were really red after 3:45 of hard riding. There just wasn’t an opportunity to even apply some chapstick or a quick dab of sunscreen because it was chilly and I had full fingered gloves.

I’m no expert on sunscreens but my understanding is mineral sunscreens tend to wash/sweat off more easily because the zinc or titanium particles don’t bond to the skin easily nor absorb into it. That’s why they’re often considered better for your health and the environment.

On the other hand chemical sunscreens last longer in wet conditions because the compounds absorb into the skin. Since they’re absorbed into the skin, there is some evidence (mostly from rats) of a link to other cancers. So pick your poison!

I am using the arm sleeve of B-Driven Sports and am very happy with it, it helps to reduce the temperature in my arms a lot when exposed to direct sunlight, no longer burning.

Red headed and blue eyes, I’m a professional at being sunburned.

Sleeves are a must for me if riding mid day. Sunscreen as well on my face and neck. I don’t have an issue with the sport cream coming off but it does need to be reapplied every 90-120 mins of hard effort.
