The iPhone app has been super buggy for me lately as well, so I wouldn’t say it’s just the web browser that needs attention.
Loading up the app takes forever. It doesn’t start at the Race TV screen either, so then you’ve got to wait for races to load. It’s a crapshot where in the list of races you’ll land, and scrolling to what you want can take a while even if it was yesterday’s Giro stage.
Then, once you find the right race, the troubles really start. The whole-race starts auto-playing immediately and that sometimes breaks things but at the very least it makes it laggy. Then you select the long-highlights, expect that list can jump around or lag with your touch inputs which means you can accidentally select the wrong one. Even if you get the right one though, it might just load to a blank screen, or won’t let you use the on screen controls, or if you airplay it, it might suddenly switch back to the full-race video. It’ll probably restart the stream or drop it multiple times after that. Good luck fast forwarding / scrubbing to where you left off though, that might cause the stream do drop again.
It used to be okay but not great. I’ve got an iPhone X, AppleTV 4K, and a 300 Mbps connection - and yes I’ve restarted my phone etc. Really need that AppleTV app asap.
the shield tv app has been pretty great. i wish i could just use the left/right keypad to fast forward and rewind and not be forced to use the ff/rew on screen buttons, but if that’s my only complaint so far, we’re in good shape
I don’t know what happened to the Chromecast function on the Eurosport player, but it became virtually unusable this year. I had to watch the Tour of Flanders on my pc because Chromecast would keep stuttering. I’ve now got a Droix Android TV box and it’s been pretty rock solid so far. Much better picture and no buffering or stuttering of any kind.
I’m having the same problem with the Giro. It is fine on my iPad, but trying to watch with my MacBook and Safari, I can’t get in. Didn’t have this problem earlier in the season.
I’ve not read the entire thread so apologies if this has been said before, but my issue is about logging in.
EVERY time I log in and go to the films or race coverage it tells me I haven’t subscribed - obviously I have. I go to my profile and it shows me as a subscriber and then I go back to watch something and yep…tells me I;mnot a subscriber! I usuallyhave to log in 2 or 3 times and eventually this goes away.
I have also had buffering issues while simply watching some of the docs despite being on a very high speed connection.
Frankly I don’t see myself renewing now I’m not travelling - its just too much grief for what it offers.
Can’t suggest much more than a complete purging of browser cache and/or using incognito mode. FWIW I have no issues using the web player through Chrome on iPad. Are you using a VPN?
Anyone using the Samsung TV app with issues? It constaltnly buffers on that to the point it is unwatchable. I have moved to watching the coverages on Quest now in the evenings.
Yep. I’ve been meaning to email them but for me the Samsung app buffers every 90 seconds or so and as you say is unwatchable. Using Airplay to cast to the TV works fine.
It would be great if you could send us an email at support@globalcyclingnetwork.com - this goes to our support team and we’re collating info on devices that seem to be buffering heavily. For the time being if you switch to the race only feed you’ll generally get a better experience. We hope to have this issue fixed as soon as possible however, the more info we have the easier the problem will be to solve.
After a good deal of pondering, I finally joined the GCN+ subscription.
An Englishman in New York (state) I can now enjoy EuroSport coverage of my favourite sport. A little annoying that I can only stream from my iPhone to the Apple TV at this time. Looking forward to a dedicated ATV App.
I am having buffering issues on the Samsung app. Two TVs . Only on race highlights not on documentaries or when watching live racing. In the UK with good broadband connection.
I just wanted to comment on the Giro Coverage from GCN+ this year (2021). Absolutely first class coverage and great commentary from King Kelly and crowd. Totally worth the money, thank you.
FYI, I’m watching it on a Samsung TV using the GCN app without any buffering problems. I’m not sure if that helps or not.
The android app is a pile of hot garbage. If there is literally any alternative available in Canada, I’ll use that for the next major race of interest.
