[AI] I'm suspect of the fatigue warnings w/ my AI plan

I set up a pretty “busy” plan. I actively swim, bike, and lift weights. I wanted something to capture all that and the triathlete plan was closest. I left the running on there…thought it might prove motivational. Maybe I’ll go for a walk or something :stuck_out_tongue:

I set it to a moderate effort. Let it do its thing. Then added in a weight lifting schedule (3/week, MWF).

Before I even added the weights it flagged me as yellow/red for many of the days. After the weights, it’s basically warning me of eminent death.

Here’s the first week of the plan (started after a couple of days rest, so I’m going into this week well rested)

You see that I’m flagged yellow/read right out the gate after the first day.

I’m ok trusting the system, but it seems a little “off”. Like if even before building fatigue, it’s flagging the workouts…shouldn’t the plan have not been so aggressive to begin with?

Being it’s a new system, I thought I’d raise this and see if there’s more to it then me being over ambitious. :stuck_out_tongue:

I had the same experience. It said I was going to be running red lights twice a week and was going to cancel or replace workouts with 30 endurance.

I had to edit my plan to make all but 3 of my weekly rides Manual rides that the system couldnt override. (it was trying to cancel my Friday-Sunday riding with my wife…yeah that’s not going to happen.) I had to let it think those rides will be a little easier than what the actual TSS will be. It still didnt completely resolve it,but then overnight the AI seemed to adjust. It was weird since I was expecting it to adjust as soon as I made the change. The system definitely doesnt like the fact that my volume has been low for 8 weeks due to constant fall related injuries.

I also made sure Fatigue detection was turned off.

Does it have the history of you doing all of these training sessions to calculate your trailing TSS, or is this new for you to log this activity in the plan?

I did take time off the bike. I just started swimming this year. So for about 6 weeks over the holidays I only swam. But did so 5x a week for an hour or so each day. I also did the MWF weights during this time.

While that’s a decent volume, I was learning swimming so they were relatively technique focused and not too intense (imo). I also took like a week or two mostly off right before Jan. Holiday schedules, closed pools, etc.

But before that, my cycling volume was high. I have at least a solid year of data with volume peaking in June with a 200m 1/day ride.

Something I’ve noticed that made me suspect a “glitch”. When I did just a cycling plan and then did my swims, workouts, etc. And just let my garmin upload them…it seemed to give much different results.

It would adjust as they came in, but it didn’t blow up. Sometimes it reduced the load, but sometimes it didn’t at all. Or was more subtle, like just moving from a 3.5 → 2.4 or something.

It looks like you’re coming off a period of virtually no training stress since November, which is probably why we’re telling you to slowww down a bit.

Yeah, some of that was mostly weights but also swimming. . . . and for like weeks I didn’t realize how Garmin tracked the swimming distance and was just using the watch instead of a swimming friendly chest strap.

So the result was, I’d go swim for like an hour straight, but it’d track it as like 15/20m swim time with a lot of HR drop outs that racked as ‘rest’.

Then I ponied up for a 600 HRM and it got better. But I didn’t realize it only tracks distance/laps if you’re doing a steady stroke cadence. So it’d skip all the drill work I did and, again, show like 20m work when I’d done an hour.

I think I finally got all that sussed out. Here’s my most recent. You can even see when I did long drill period and my pace squares off during a long drill period. And I get 40m of swim time for about an hour. And a nice consistent HR reading.

Long way of saying….it looks like I was being lazier than I was. . . I swear! :stuck_out_tongue:
