AI FTP working good

A little background. I have been on trainer road for at least a few years. I have had power data on almost all rides for last season and this one. In 2025 I was doing way too many races in the 1.5 to 2 hour range. my ftp got up to 262 and stayed or went down. In January I finally figured out that I had been dealing with Afib ( I think for the last two years, longer story but trust your hr monitor). I had an ablation and changed my lifestyle to keep my Afib in remission. My Dr. says I am ok to train and race.I had my procedure on March 2,2026. I was off the bike a couple of weeks and when I got back on I was limited to 110 BPM ! Let me tell you that this sucked  At that time I was actually putting out 110 watts at 110 BPM. I kept at it sticking to the 110bpm until the beginning of May. That is when I went up to 130 max heart rate ( proper zone2 ). I put some hours in at just zone 2,working my way up to doing a century at the beginning of June. I started intervals the last week of May. My AI ftp was down to 209 watts. First few intervals were a little tough, but then I really started responding. I never made it up to my first 28 days and it bumped my ftp. I have continued to be pretty strict with my training plan. My intervals feel hard, but I have only failed one ( I had to turn down last interval to 90 percent). My outdoor intervals are in a closed down park where I have miles of road and only need to turn during my rest intervals ( I can nail the interval workouts good). I had one prediction go down after a 1.5 hour threshold outdoor workout. It went from 275 to 270. Upon looking I was about 20 tss too high for the workout. I then played with the duration of the next days ride and found shortening it put the prediction back up to 273. I did the ride as prescribed and the prediction went to 274 (pretty close again). After a few more workouts ( I play with durations and change them to get the highest ftp prediction that I can) it is back up to now 276. I feel like this is really helping get the most out of my workouts and training plan. I have just a few races scheduled on the way to my A race that is Iceman this year. With all my time off of training I wanted to make it a goal to do the best I can at Iceman where I am usually just overtrained and tired by November. P.S I am riding with heartrate and power on every ride, taking every off day before intervals, dialing nutrition and lifestyle. I am SO happy with the gains I have made this year. I hope my heart stays good and my gains continue.

Congrats on your success so far! :star_struck:

It sounds like you’ve been through quite a training journey.

Just shout if we can help out with anything along the way! :handshake:

Kudos on your recovery- and your return to training! I was thinking during my ride this morning that I am happy with TR, my plan and the AI model, too. Regrettably, my wife had a stroke a few months back and I was unable to ride much for a couple of months. PTL, her recovery is progressing and I’m able to get back onto the bike. My AI FTP took quite a hit, but I realized it was due to my recent training (lack!), accepted it and used it as an opportunity to ease back into some structure. And it is working for me, really, really well. I’m getting the structure I need at my current level; and I know if I stick to it, I’ll be at my old FTP again soon.
I also appreciate the insight you shared about selecting different rides to tweak the plan a bit here and there. I’m going to try that a bit for my endurance rides.
Stay safe and happy training!
