Advice on volume check results

I ran a volume check today to see what TR thought of my current workout schedule.

I got this:

Which would give me three workouts a week. That said, my current schedule includes several other workouts that this volume check is taking into account. Specifically my current schedule is:

  • Monday: Rest day
  • Tuesday: 1 hour of bike intervals at lunch, lifting in the afternoon
  • Wednesday: Rest day
  • Thursday: 1.5 hours of bike intervals at lunch
    • Though now we’re in race season so I do velodrome races in the evening
  • Friday: Dynamic endurance ride, normally 45mins (tbh this is mostly just because I want to ride outside sometimes)
  • Saturday: lifting in the morning
  • Sunday: 1 hour of bike intervals in the afternoon

E.g.

The current schedule works nicely for me. The snag that I want advice on is if and how I should shuffle my schedule around based on the volume check. Tuesday and sunday are fine, but I can’t add a bike workout to saturday (that would be too much workout time cutting into family time) and I I can move gym times a little, but I can’t go to the gym on friday (my trainer doesn’t work on fridays) or sundays (they’re closed on sundays), so I’m kind of pinned in. Really the only reason I can get the volume I’m currently getting in is because I can do the intervals over lunch during the week.

Any thoughts or advice? I’m making decent progress with my current schedule so I don’t mind just sticking with it, but I figured I’d ask what other people thought about it. I don’t want to just start hacking up the schedule just because, so any advice or perspective would be appreciated.

I think that what you got with the check volume tools is somewhat valid since you’re typically only doing three structured workouts a week.

Your strength work and B/C races make up the rest of your training, so I’d just arrange all of that in a way that works well with your schedule as long as it’s productive and allows for recovery between hard sessions.

Keeping strength work on hard workout days is good since it allows the other days to facilitate recovery. :+1:
