Is there a way to push your current plan out a few weeks? I was one week into a build plan and came down with shingles. I’d like to pause it where Im at and continue when I feel up to it. In the mean time I will just do zone 2 rides and a little threshold if I can tolerate it. The shingles have been mild so far and I just feel a little fatigued. I got into my doctor the first day and he prescribed Valtrex and a 5 day course of prednisone. He said I could still train as long as I feel ok but I dont want to put any high stress on my body that V02 and anerobic work would cause.
Condolences on the shingles. Do you want to just take a couple of weeks off/easy and keep the end date and objective the same, or push out the end date too?
Just push the entire plan out, pushing out the end as far as it needs to go.
Two possibilities that I can think of, which I’ll admit, are not exactly what you asked for, which sounds like picking up the entirety of what remains of the plan & dropping it back on the calendar at an arbitrary date.
The first option is to put in a time-off or sick annotation for the duration you expect to be unable to complete the prescribed workouts, & let the plan adapt. If you’re still not ready to come back into structured training at the end date for your annotation, extend it. The plan will adapt again. If you’re on a plan that is not event-specific, three weeks pass, & you’re still not ready, you could then go into your plan settings & extend the plan duration by a month.
Another thought: I reached out to Support with a similar request, but YMMV depending upon your plan type, where you are in your plan, & where your events are in relation to it. I’m in the base phase of the “Build endurance” plan which, when inserted, appears to pay no heed to events already on the calendar.
A week ago I noticed that some of my very long audax rides were awkwardly placed: at the end of recovery weeks. What a way to shortcut my recovery & nuke the start of the next block!
I decided I wanted to push my plan out by one week, so that my big audax rides would align with the final weekend of the loading phases within blocks. Advice on e-mail from Carter at TR was as follows:
The best way to achieve what you have outlined would be to delete your current plan and build a new one. You can use the original start date from your current plan (Nov 11th, 2025) and then add the BVRT Ultra as your ‘A’ Race on May 23. You can also add these other races as B or C events. Adding your ‘A’ race on May 23 should result in a rest week directly following this, and line up your previous rest week with the other event.
I must admit, I misread this, created a plan with a gran fondo in mind, but it put the taper weeks where the reco weeks were.
My fault though.
My intended start date for a loading block was only a couple of days away so I instead inserted a plan starting from that date. The end result was an extra base block (I don’t mind; I like base.
) with the recovery weeks immediately after the big rides so I could torch myself with impunity.
Not exactly what was recommended but it got the job done.
If you’re further along in your plan then this approach might not work, & might instead want to drop you back into base training. TR Support staff will know the inner workings better. @eddie?
I think @craigmanning has a good idea here. If you’re only one week into your plan and you’ve already missed, or plan to miss a fair bit of training, it might be best to simply delete that plan and start a new one, just as Carter had recommended to @roleypup in their support ticket.
Best of luck with your recovery!
Thanks Eddie. I just deleted it and pushed it out a week. I luckily got into the dr office the first day and he put me on valtrex and prednisone. It pretty much stopped it in its tracks. I never had the pain and the little blisters are almost gone and its only been a week.
