why glad with it when you dont have used it?
I should have said never used it in the race, but once over the line something to drink at hand is a Godsend ![]()
Its usually hand for a couple of swigs on the ride to the start pre race too.
Aero bottles usually take some care to replace in their cage, so you might lose a few more seconds than you think.
I have used a gel flask with liquid in before now, it holds a good couple of mouthfuls. I just tucked in a top tube bag that I carry a puncture kit in (if there is no rescue available).
I probably wouldnât put too much faith in it as we are all different. I wouldnât drink for 40km (although I do carry a bottle, it fills the hole in the frame and is useful before/after), my ex coach an ex British level pro reckoned he needed it whatever the distance.
tl;dr. Last sentence of the abstract:
whether or not participants consumed fluid during exercise did not influence their TT performance
Lol first TT of the season I was 19s down on the PB (25s according to RWGPS, lol 13s according to Strava). If Iâd started better I might have been closer to it, but for the first mile or two with 40mph gusts I barely pedalled and got held up a bit at the big roundabout (in the 3rd mile). Not as much as my minute man who was flying and overtook me at the roundabout. For the briefest of moments I actually started to catch him again, as he was slowing for traffic and probably turning a bigger gear. A few 100 yards after the roundabout he steadily disappeared
. Despite the lack of pedalling and the roundabout delay, I was still 32 s up at the turn and whilst dropping time into the head wind (helped by getting through the return roundabout quicker than my pb) I roughly stayed ahead until the last 2/3 of a mile. So for a season opener in tough conditions Iâm fairly happy with it.
Assuming you had a shallow front due to wind gusts that day?
The weather has been pretty grim for TT riding, well done for getting out!
We finally had a nice day yesterday, if a bit cold, so I actually did a bit of riding in TT position.
Planning on starting my season at Kings Lynn on Saturday. I got excited when I saw I was last man off, but a certain Joe Skipper is riding too (and several of the faster riders who have started their seasons already).
Good result, Jamie!
Looking Fast!
I picked up a mistral this season but the fit seems off, I seem to have a bigger gap from the back to the helmet and it doesnât stay put.
Also, how do you clean the visor? I try to clean mine and it just seems to get worse lol
![]()
My visor is in a pretty bad state if Iâm honest. picked up the helmet 2nd hand and the visor was peeling badly when I got it. When I need to clean it I will most likely just use baby wipes or something similar
I d like to know that too. My Kask Bambino visor (almost identical) became unusable as it steamed up all the time. The mistral visor so far, touchwood, hasnât steamed up. I use a micro fibre cloth (the one for my spectacles) to wipe it :-/
What set up do you have for your base bar pads? Iâd like to update mine and looking to add some height, not sure what the best way to make it happen. Can you provide some up close pics?
Kings Lynn (B33/25?) to start the season for me. 8 degrees, rain and 20 mph crosswind on exposed fenland ![]()
Spent too long on turbo trainer and gravel bike this winter, and have lost the confidence to hold aero position in those conditions. Itâll come back quick enough, but I bottled it and rode the longer exposed sections on the bull horns.
Still I did everything wrong and only finished a minute back ![]()
Spot on; aerocoach arm rests and extensions. 0 mm spacers under arm rests but rocking the 45 mm mono spacer. Recent bike fit suggested I go down to the 15 mm spacer but this crippled me.
Good stuff - I didnât enter as I got Covid the weekend before the closing date and this is usually my first TT bike TT of the yearâŚinternally glad I didnât judging by the KLCC pictures and results - will start at their Good Friday 10 - weather looks better!
