Unfortunately Nopinz doesn’t have a money back guarantee!
My racing season is finally kicking off and I need a good pair of aero/TT socks. Send me your suggestions and what you have been using. For reference I wear 46 cycling shoes, so nothing tiny
Aero socks are a big potential gain. For TT, I’d recommend going overshoes, especially when UCI jurisdiction doesn’t apply. I use Nopinz UCI illegal overshoes that can be pretty easily pulled over shoes and the have tested significantly faster than the LeCol x McLaren socks.
For aero socks, I like the McLaren ones, but rule 28 are great too.
For normal road riding I use the Silca ones, as they are as comfortable and easy to wear as any normal sock.
I have heard of the rule 28 ones and was looking at them as I sent the message, so I will probably give them some serious consideration. I agree with the overshoes being the priority, however some of the time trial events I will be doing on my road bike because they are partly hill climbs as well so I need a good combination of overshoes and socks for when I’m not wearing over shoes. I’m also targeting Masters Nationals so I need UCI legal stuff I will take a look at the stuff you suggested later today when I get back from the dentist…
Edit: I don’t need any socks for general riding and training, they would be used just for racing. Our team gets normal socks and I just use those but they don’t have any time trial specific offerings.
Rule 28 for me, i tried nopinz but the gripper material was too weak to stay up on mine.
Get bigger calves.
Thanks for that useless information…
C’mon, seriously? it was a joke!
Sheesh.
Im using Sportful ones I got from Tredz for a good price. Straight out of the bag they are holding up good but I’m not sure what they’ll be like after a couple of washes. I think I want something thats a bit longer but not white (there seems to be plenty long socks in all sizes in the UK that are white).
I have the Rule28 and the a couple Nopinz Overshoes.
The Rule28 appear more sturdy BUT they also cover your heel so it could be an issue if you try to walk in them or take your foot off and touch the ground while moving. My other gripe with the Rule28 is that they appear kinda loose near my ankle and super tight on my calves.
The two pairs of Nopinz overshoes have ripped in the same part on the back portion near the heel. Grated I’ve used them numerous times, I also feel the durability is not in the same league as Rule28.
If your looking for just socks… I’ve had super luck with some 2.99$ aliexpress “aero socks”. I shit you not they look identical to my buddies via13’s and some other name brands I’ve seen in the peloton.
For aero socks I use Rule 28. They’ve held up pretty well over the last 2-3 years, but I’ve found that after several washes the gripper material gets less tacky and they have a hard time staying up. My calves are already plenty big @Power13, so that route won’t help . I also have NoPinz aero socks and their gripper is even worse. I had issues with them slipping on the very first wear.
I also use the same brands of aero shoe covers. I echo @Majoeric’s feedback in that the Rule 28s are more sturdy, but mine wore out quickly because of the covered heel. I’m now using NoPinz and haven’t had any issues so far. The NoPinz also seem to stay up better, which is ironic given my experience with the socks.
I laughed
Okay, another question for y’all. How have you found sizing for the skin suits? Our current team skin suits put pressure on me in ways that don’t feel quite… Wonderful. I would like to try something new but I’m a little leery of ordering something that specific online.
Edit: no Pinz, naturally.
I wear a small in In everything (but castelli) and I find Nopinz and Velotec also fit me well in a small.
Last season kit was an NoPinz and this season an Endura D2ZEncapsulator they are both XS. The NoPinz is slightly more generous than the Endura. Being a bit tighter the Endura marginally fits my shoulders / chest slightly but there’s not much in it. OT the speed pocket on the NoPinz is easier to access with the suit on than the Endura.
Some new TT-bling.
58T outer ring for Shimano 9200.
Now I am just missing the following:
Shimano 9200
Likely a new Giant Trinity Disc. From a Cadex commercial with Blummenfelt sat on it.
He is going to race the Sub7 in early June, so I totally expect them to launch it then or before.
Fork (and seatstays?) seem to be like on the Hope/Lotus bike. Or are there others that do that?
Blummenfelt is a Giant sponsored rider, so could make sense.
It’s definitely a Giant/Cadex setup and apparently it also doesn’t have a top tube!
