5 months in, these are my thoughts

Joined the platform to train 5 months prior to 7 day Gravel Burn. What I like - first App that balances bike power with the trainers power (which I have found is normally too high), what I dislike are the constant ads to my mail about joining TrainerRoad even though I have an annual subscription, constant restart to existing plan when you add an event, it asks what are your training for even though I specifically stated to add race the existing plan so I just back out of that page. The plan started off by suggesting 6 to 8 hours a week which seemed very light when training for an 800 kilometer race so I set up my own weekend rides with group (fun ride semi hard on a Saturday) and solo zone 2 climbing ride on Sunday typically 3 hours. I hoped from there the platform would create the optimal plan considering these two days which were specified on the plan in advance and then recorded on the platform. As these were listed but not part of the Trainerroad plan, I soon learnt the measurements were not considered and here the platform for me falls flat. Although my FTP increased especially when it came to the pre planed races, these readings were not considered on the TR progress chart. Today it recommended a hard session although I had just completed a three day gravel event with only one rest day and experience told me such a test was too soon but I did it and could not complete and as this was an FTP measurement day, TR decided my FTP was now reducing by 5 watts. So it misread my fatigue in my opinion as again the race completed was not seemingly taken into consideration, where I had produced some decent numbers. I am fatigued at this stage and will ignore the tapper suggested in the next 10 days prior to the event as again seem too hard (racing for 45 years). Conclusion is that the program started too light, so I adjusted to gain the necessary miles for the event (which will most likely be the reasoning from TR as to why I went wrong but experience tells me I need 10 to 12 hours a week for such a tour), we were then never aligned from there as these readings do not form part of the TR chart. Also dislike the inability to post review on Reddit as TR blocks it.

Hey @GLRC, welcome to the forum!

Thanks for all the feedback.

I’ve just taken a look at your calendar, and I can’t find a single workout in your training history (at least this year) that follows your training plan’s settings. This means that you’re either not following your plan or you aren’t associating your completed activities with the prescribed TR workouts.

Either of those scenarios will cause issues.

How are you following along with your TR workouts? It looks like you’re recording them with a Garmin device, but I don’t see any GPS data, so it doesn’t seem like you’re riding outside..

I’d be happy to help you work through your frustrations and issues if you’d like. I’m pretty certain that I can help you get the experience you’re looking for if we get things in order properly moving forward.

Let me know, and I’d be happy to help. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks again & happy riding!

Is the one and only mod actually in anyway affiliated with TR?

Hi mrtopher,

Thanks for the response. Not sure I follow it however. I posted the same review made on TR as I did on Reddit (a platform where people share experiences and look for independent feedback and is not for complaints) and on posting I received the response that the platform (TR) that I was linking my review on had blocked the review. Hence my final note on the review. Hope this clarifies my point better.

Dear Eddie,

Thanks for the response and questions.

I started the program in June and yes I do follow the program except for the weekends where my review gave the reasoning. Not sure why you cannot see these workouts they are there, always indoors Tuesday to Friday. I use a Garmin only so that my health insurance program see these workouts as TR does not link for his third party. Your system is smart so it will delete duplicate workouts which is what I believe is happening. So the starting point is that your assumption I am not following the program this year is wrong. I had hoped for a platform that would track the outdoor weekend rides as part of the program and measure these to update the future workouts and not only consider the fatigue level (which apparently this week it did not read correctly as the three day gravel event marked very hard was followed by TR programming a hard ride after a day, but this is not the norm and perhaps only because it was looking to update the FTP on this day?)

Not sure what you’re not following. As far as I’m aware the trainerroad subreddit has nothing to do with trainerroad the company. The moderator that would have removed it is again as far as I’m aware not on anyway affiliated with trainerroad.

Many subs on reddit have auto moderation that removes posts from people who have not previously used that sub before or have not used it enough.

Why and how would TR block a review on reddit, that they don’t control, but allow it on their own forum?

Hi - as Eddie mentioned, are you “associating” your workouts in TR after the fact? I understand you’re doing the workout on your Garmin, which is sending the file to TR, but are you then “associating” it to the prescribed TR workout?

Hi Eddie but they are TR workouts and I used the TR on my laptop and separate to this my Garmin when completing them so why would I need to associate them like I did for the weekend rides out on the road (so I understand this principal)? Surely if the file is being recorded on TR via the your PC App it would automatically associate with the workout of that day? Why such a manual system, if this is correct? If correct my time was wasted, no flags suggesting I was missing workouts. What makes no sense is if this is correct why did the platform ignore its own workout and capture the duplicate Garmin instead that needed manual association? If I go back and associate all those 5 months of rides would i get a totally different plan?

See this as an example, it gives the name of the workout (TR name) and that it is completed, but you say you have not seen a TR workout this year. At the weekends you can see I have associated the outdoor workouts with group or solo pre planned rides

@eddie - check this out. Looks like something isn’t adding up between what you were seeing and what OP sees on their calendar

Thanks I will not take offense that I am “not following” and politely highlight that if this is the case (TR has nothing to do with it) then perhaps you can pick it up with them for showing the message shown below on their platform as it does not look good for TR when someone making a non offense and factual review of your platform gets such a response “removed by moderators of TrainerRoad” this is misleading. I hope my experience can help improve on how this platform communicates feedback on TR.

It says it was removed by the moderators of r/trainerroad. That means the moderators of that Reddit group, not that it was someone who works for TR.

Your tone is pretty combative. I understand you’re frustrated, but everyone who’s replying, including Eddie, who DOES work for TR, is trying to help you. See this as a chance to learn how both TR and Reddit work rather than people arguing with you. Eddie will help get it figured out.

It was removed because you’ve been on reddit one day. Pretty standard on there and has nothing to do with trainerroad as they are not the ones running that forum. I’ve had this happen to when posting on a brand related sub as a new user. It was not the brand that removed me, they aren’t the moderators, it was auto set rules that someone without enough activity on that sub couldn’t start a new post. It’s to prevent spam. It sucks but it has nothing to do with trainerroad.

hi Pbase, sorry if the tone sounds combative, I am not trying to be combative. The line is misleading from Reddit and as a member of your platform that is how I read it as it had your name on it, but will make no further comment.

FYI - I don’t work for TR either. I’m just another TR user trying to help you. See how Eddie has a red star on his name? That means he’s a TR employee.

No red star my end, and had no idea I was talking to anyone other than a representative of TR, thanks for highlighting this.

FYI - this is what we see in the Discourse app.

Hope I’m not out of line suggesting this, but you might get more satisfactory help working through your experience with one of the TR support operatives - reaching out through the support section of the website. You’ll get 1:1 dedicated responses from someone at the business who can help understand your frustrations and see if they can help. All the team I’ve interacted with there are great!

thanks will try this now I understand that not one training day was recorded for 5 months, clearly something is out of whack.
