1 week training before holiday - what to do?

I’ve got a few weeks coming up on holiday when I won’t be riding. Due to how things worked out I’ve just come off a rest week and only have one week before heading off on holiday. I’m keen to keep the legs turning over, want to minimise my fitness loss (I am looking forward to time off the bike but feel 4 weeks - the rest week + this week + 2 weeks holdiay - feels a bit much!).

What’s a good training routine for the week? I’ve just come off a three week threshold training block. I’ll try and cycle to work 2 or 3 times in the week (25kms / 1 hour each way). No time for long rides this week though - it’ll have to be turbo.

Not sure I know the answer but don’t go mental the week before your holiday… I’ve done that thinking holiday is a rest… but then got ill on holiday due to over training a bit the week before. Immune system low and then travel and mixing with many people you’ve never been in contact with is a recipe for disaster imo. Just train normally and enjoy your holiday.

Coming off a rest week and knowing I have one week until some time off I would treat it like a race week and go for some power PRs… 60 min, 20 min, 5 min (or whatever you’re feeling). Then I’d use the time off as a season break and start fresh with base when you start up again.

I’d go back in time and train through the recovery week right up to two days before the holiday/vacation travel (and forced absence from the bike). Unless I was really dragging ass headed into the scheduled recovery week, of course.

But I do like the idea of treating the final week as a power test/race week too.

Hey @trebor  Holiday sounds nice!

You can either “mimic” the week prior or training, or you can use TrainNow to recommend workouts.

Or… go ride and have fun!
