So Nate and Eric are really the ones controlling the world, but making it look like they are about to be bought by Zwift to hide that fact?
This has been an entertaining thread to read, but Nateās comment about happily being underestimated keeps replaying in my head.
Twistā¦
Z came with a BIG buy out offer and Nate told him to pound sand!
And now Z people are trolling him by doing all things they have been doing the last few weeksā¦
I actually do keep mine up to date with my weigh-ins, so based on the variability there I would say my Zwift weight is typically within +/- 1kg of my real weight. I.e., good enough IMO.
I donāt weigh within 2 hours of the race or whatever it is for the top leagues. If I get close to the A boundary again I probably will start necking pints of water before my weigh in thoughā¦
Similarly I keep my weight relative up to date and would say in general it is within +/- a kg or two.
I am a heavy cat c rider so a kilo or two either side makes relative little difference.
Yes there are cheats. I use Zwift power which does help in dealing with this.
There is a lot of nose sky attitude towards Zwift on this forum I find.
I use both platforms for different purposes. But ultimately it is all cycling (of sorts)
For some it is ājust a gameāā¦but clearly the platform has changed over the years and now many people take it seriously, both for training and actual competition. Heck, there is even a legit Rainbow jersey up for grabs now.
So while you may view it as ājust a gameā, for many others it is important and they have vested interests in limiting cheating on the platform.
Because I donāt agree with that statement, unless you consider any sporting event ājust a gameā and you have no problem with finding out you canāt trust most of the people you meet to be honest even in āa gameā
many people take it very seriously. I understand wanting a level playing field but it seems like unless youāre all using the trainer for races and having some better way to verify your weight then itās not feasible. But I know theyāre trying to make it as fair as possible but there will always be cheaters.
I just donāt worry about it. I havenāt raced much on Zwift but when I have I just looked at it as a hard workout. I wasnāt losing sleep thinking about how I couldnāt have placed better. But for some itās a motivating factor.
The āgameā vs āseriousā side is real. For those that are actually racing in events, I totally get it. Z has some substantial issues and needs to address them if they aim to have racing taken āseriouslyā as they seem to be pushing. The update released just this week (forced minimum categorization testing) is a real first step for them.
Outside of that racing example, I donāt get the point in sweating 40-somethings ripping sub 45m AdZ pulls or any of the other superhuman efforts we can see in the random Z world.
For me, itās because it promotes an āeveryone is cheating, so I should tooā attitude, and in the long run, thatās just bad for everyone (and Iām talking about in society in general). If itās ok to cheat while climbing a mountain in Zwift, it becomes ok to cheat elsewhere, and thatās a very slippery slope. People may say āthat ship has sailedā but I think standing up for doing what is right is a soapbox worth shouting from.
See my comment just above for my thoughts
Well, there is a wide range of knowledge and intent within this world. More than a few of the ābadā data stuff we see is from unintentional mistakes from people who simply donāt know any better. Itās potentially important to work on informing them so we can clean that up.
There are certainly people who have bad rider data and/or manipulate their power data. And checking that as appropriate makes sense as well. In any of these cases, itās easy to make assumptions that may not match reality.
I just think we need to be cautions about using too broad a brush with bad data.
I understand trying to make racing fair.
But I agree people cheating for a alpe time is just as meaningless as Strava KOMs. Iām not wasting my time trying to figure out if somebody cheated.
Absolutely.lā¦which is why we have rules, regulations and enforcementā¦to discourage that behavior.
I donāt think anyone here believes in a unicorn-world where no one cheats. They are re just looking to minimize it and even the okaying field as much as possible.
Please take this advice yourself. Youāll notice I have not attacked you in return even though you keep trying to goad me. I have not attacked any individual, I have shared my thoughts on a concept. You, on the other hand, continue to shoot fire at me.
