Zwift "Premium", TR Merger or Add-In speculation

Wow……those are some giant leaps of logic. Not certain where you are making some of your conclusions from, TBH.

Don’t think anyone is making any conclusions based on people’s FB feeds or even doing 3.2 w/kg. But when people are going up the Alpe in under 40 min, yeah, people are gonna ask questions.

Back to the topic of the post, and it’s recent invigoration . . .

As evident by the large # of posts (1266 and counting) there are a lot of strong views and energy related to its outcome. Thus far all we have is:

  • Reno stop over by Eric
  • Nate’s absence from the TR podcast
  • DCRainmaker article

Currently we are in a quiet period. And it would be even further speculation to state why, such as:

  • No deal was ever in the works
  • Deal is off
  • LOTS of follow-on activities need to and are taking place before we’ll hear

Conclusion: Inquiring minds want to know :joy:. It looks like we’ll just have to wait for further “evidence” to speculate more or an announcement itself.

Also if there was a deal, Zwift aren’t exactly known for speed of execution. So we’re unlikely to hear much (if anything) for a while.

So what you are saying is we are all underestimating TR? That is why Nate really wants to raise prices! He is BUYING ZWIFT! I KNEW IT!

I would not correlate Zwift’s speed (or lack thereof) of product execution on M&A activity. There’s a LOT involved in the process, everything from strategy (1 + 1 > 2), to deal negotiation/logistic, to dealing with the human/emotional side of things (read a few hundred Forum posts above and think this: If this is how TR Forum folks feel; how would TR insiders feel?).

Compounding all of these challenges is that Z & TR operate and think very differently in some areas: Z is a venture backed company focused on growth; TR is [what VC’s call] a life style company focused on “a sense of family” and positive cash flow operations. Neither is better, each has its advantages and challenges, but they make M&A action more challenging.

Are those the even weeks (2, 4, 6) or the odd ones? Just trying to clarify

I assume the reason why Nate is on bi-weekly instead of weekly is it takes 2 weeks for @IvyAudrain to get the forum back under control after Nate’s been on the podcast

This question might as well belong here. How has Zwift become the Kleenex brand for indoor cycling? I don’t know many cyclists, but the ones that I do are on Zwift. The various triathlon and cycling podcasts I listen to always mention Zwift, no other platform is mentioned. Well, one triathlon platform mentions Rouvy every once in a while, but my guess is because Rouvy has a deal with the Ironman brand and did some virtual races with Ironman.

I think the initial hold came from one word, community. They cultivated a decent group of people that enjoyed the fully interactive experience and aimed to get all of their friends into it. That transition from the beta experience to official release in late 2015 was a pretty solid jump from what I could tell.

Later on it was clearly marketing from their massive budget, but the foundation was laid with their product that was a better and more connected experience than the other stuff at that time (Bkool, Rouvy, Tacx, Elite, etc. had bits of it, but didn’t nail it like Zwift did).

To add to @mcneese.chad comments:

Zwift was propelled into the major leagues with their $450M venture capital financing. Visibility and credibility skyrocketed [at least here in Silicon Valley even amongst those who are not cyclists]. Most of the members of our race team that were using TR moved to Zwift. And FWIW: on our broader 2,000 person email group, 2 years ago the name TR would appear approximately 2 times for every 3 Zwift mentions. Since the start of the pandemic, lots of mentions of Zwift of course (group rides, races, etc), but there has yet to be another mention of TR.

fwiw, my strava feed has more systm users than zwift. And many of the zwifters are also systm - they ride zwift courses while doing their systm workouts. I tried it for a while and was bored silly. I’d rather TR and watch netflix/prime.

I did a 48min AdZ at age 43 right at 4.0 W/kg (legit weight). Is this a thing? I’m certainly nothing special… I imagine there are some number of 40-somethings who train more than I do that can go sub-45.

Or is it just some proliferation of people doing it all of a sudden and it looks like Z doping? I don’t keep up with all the goings on on Z…

You did not follow the meme, Nate.

My little example was a generalized one related to a number of rather unrealistic efforts seen on some of the more notable segments, and from some individuals that clearly lack your level of fitness.

Merger or not, what really would be nice was the possibility to directly load the workouts in zwift like it’s possible with trainingpeaks workouts.
