Worldwide Disaster Day 2021 "Official" Thread

Are you all doing a group workout?

There are multiple group workouts posted above.

Personally, I’m going to need the distraction of action movies and loud music, plus I intend to take breaks, so the group thing doesn’t really make sense, but if it works for you, look for one above. If none of those work, you can post a new one.

If I am gonna suffer through 4 hours of this nonsense, no way I wanna look at any of you jamokes the whole time.:crazy_face::crazy_face:

I’m the same - as much as completing the ride as a group would be fun, I’d rather be able to break when I want to.

Link below to my scheduled -2 version for tomorrow at 12:15 GMT. (I’m UK based).

Happy for anyone to join me.
If you plan to in advance drop me a note so I know you’re coming

EDIT: Time knocked back a bit due to life getting in the way of cycling (annoying)

Looking forwarding to the fun :grinning:

Since I’d bet the majority of us are interested in the tshirt, and I’m not a graphical designer, I’ll throw another idea out to try to get traction. I think it could be simple, like a black Tshirt with the TR blue, to look just like a workout in the app. Maybe change the lettering to red?

Note: I wasn’t trying to hide my FTP…I just don’t think it should be there since we all have a different one. Maybe it could say “FTP 100%” there instead?

Disaster preparedness

Haha. Post-ride nutrition sorted too, I see!

Chamois cream! Great reminder. Thanks!

Enjoy

@Pbase @Pirate

I am nervously excited about it. This is my first attempt. Normally I don’t need a lot of nutrition to get through, but I read @chad notes and he said it was a good time to test your fuelling. I will be treating like a Gran Fondo, making my drinks ready first thing as I make breakfast.

Good luck tomorrow and to everyone else

Good luck, all.

I’m going to tackle -2 tomorrow, but as I have now finished work for the festive period and have plenty of spare time, i’m considering a truly “Disastrous December” by completing the -1 and full versions before New Years Eve!

I did -2 as a warm up a few weeks ago, tbh, it wasn’t terrible, but I do 90-120 min trainer rides pretty often. I’m skipping -1 and going for the big one tomorrow, but I fully admit 4 hours on my sit bones worries me more than the workout itself.

Yeah, I see -2 as a fairly normal period to be on the trainer.

When I go for the full version I plan on treating it like a century ride, so will have a break at some point.

:scream: :scream: :scream:

Best wishes for everyone doing DD tomorrow in whatever variety.
Due to family commitments I am having to leave mine until Monday probably, but I will be doing it.

Dang, I’m out this time, have a family event tomorrow and unless the weather cools down I don’t think I’ll have a chance to ride this one (staying with family and don’t have adequate cooling for the trainer).

Good luck to all you silly people!

As a result of geography (NZ at GMT -13 hrs) and the fact I started just after 4am (because I’m preparing for an event that starts at 5am) I wonder if I am the first to complete Disaster on Disaster day? - World first!?

3 Camelbak 710ml bottles of carb drink, 2 water bottles, 2 bananas, 3 jam sandwiches, 3 Vegemite and cheese sandwiches, 3 gels, 1 carb bar, 5 carb balls, the odd expletive, and a lot of sweat later we’re done.

I can see a few people are concerned re the state of their arses for that long. I just get out of the saddle during some of the recovery sections and tick over at a (very) low cadence, keeps the power on track and takes the pressure off the butt.

Good luck everyone!

I was planning to do it tmrw but I had some time this afternoon and figured I better get it done and over with before I changed my mind lol. Mostly manageable though the fireworks at the end brought me very close to giving up. Just push through the fireworks and remember each is less than 10secs! Feels great to have pulled this off as I had a lot of self doubt going into it.
Good Luck tmrw everyone!

WORLDWIDE DISASTER DAY – CHINA EDITION

RIDERS:

Beijing: Berwick, Paul, Fu, Tim, Corinna, Brendan

Shanghai: JJ

Four of us did D -2 last weekend and openers (Truuli) yesterday. All used WWDD as a target event on post season calendar. One 5min break after the endurance section (which goes on forever) for an empty and refill. Everyone hurt through the fireworks but we got there with mutual physical suffering and encouragement. TR group workout system seemed to work well with a few China firewall and individual connectivity issues adding to the colour of the workout but on the whole functioning well. Doing this one solo would increase the degree of difficulty by a factor. An external speaker providing music piped through the TR audio feed helped us through the threshold section and other bits where we were too out of it to talk. All agree it’s a wonderful achievement. Cycle club Christmas party tonight. Doubt if the Disaster alumni will be dancing much. Great initiative from TR. Thanks guys. Bring on Disaster +1 for 2022.
