Worldwide Disaster Day 2021 "Official" Thread

So my cyst removal keeps getting pushed back and more complicated….it now is scheduled for Dec 28 and will be under general anesthesia. Awesome….

So I guess that now leaves me free to give WWDD a go…yay?

Honestly, dunno if I have the form for it right now, but I’ll give it a go. Did the Zwift BMTR 100 Mile ride on Sat, which was 4 hours on the nose and came out to 221 TSS…but it was all pretty steady tempo. The “fireworks” block at the end of Disaster definitely has me wary!

You did more than you didn’t - solid job!!!

As it should. Disaster doesn’t really start until fireworks…

yeah, that 102% threshold probably will take a bit of a cut to the legs, but if I remember correctly from doing it a few years ago, the fireworks was kind of a mess. Lots of backpedals.

Did mine early and man….this is a dumb idea.

So I’m planning to begin the -2 version at around some time between 10:30 and 11:00 GMT on Saturday (I’m UK based).

I’m waiting to hear back from some members of my cycling club as to whether they want to join me and do it as a group ride.

I don’t expect I will get any takers (maybe one) so if anyone on here wants to tag along, then message me and I will let you know a firm time and the group ride code :+1:t2:

Planning to go on my first Disaster adventure on Saturday. Each of the main interval sessions seems “doable”, but strung together… oh boy. Two years TR user and maybe up for a challenge about 10 weeks after my main event of the season and like 8 weeks into training 3 rides /week.

I felt the same.

The 3rd threshold was hard. After that I was confident in finishing. Then I got to that last 30 min block with sprints mixed in and I experienced a new level of hard.

Stay ontop of nutrition and you’ll be fine. Bonking is the real risk here.

I created a group workout for Full Disaster starting at 7 AM MST / 2 PM GMT on Saturday (Dec 11th). There are still a few slots available if anyone is looking to do this with some other fools:

Quick question from a Disaster first-timer, are the sprints supposed to be all out (in resistance mode) for the true Disaster experience?

I’m doing the -2 version so there are only two in the warm-up, but when I properly sprint I tend to put myself in a hole and I need a while to recover. Then I’m sure that in the fireworks sections I’ll be fatigued enough to barely make the 200% FTP target, so that won’t be an issue.

Also, does anyone have a working link for the Discord channel? The posted ones are expired.

Wow, well done! you ve probably got further than I will.
I’m planning to do it on 21st/22 December.I’ve got cyclo cross races every weekend til 8 January. But i’ve got a recovery week in my TR training that week so will give it a go

Is it a sin to lower the intensity a little for those of us that can’t sprint?

Not a sin. You do you!

I didn’t mean to brag, my sprint is nothing exceptional after all, it’s just that when I’m fresh I can go too hard even on the trainer

Quote of the day.

Only thing “dumber” than doing it at all is doing it after six weeks of tradition base - so nothing higher than 75% FTP. :love_you_gesture:

When can I sign up for this

Are there any updates on the t-shirt for this years WWDD? I saw others who ordered recently received a shirt with the 2018 dates. I already have the 2018 and 2019 versions of the shirt so not looking to purchase another one of those, but would be happy to order a 2021 version, assuming I manage to complete it again on Saturday, of course.

So how I missed this thread. I think I may try -1 on Saturday. I am interested in where to get a t-shirt as well.

If you swap in Disaster Day to your plan should you still fill in the AT survey. It would seem to be out of context to your plan.
