Worldwide Disaster 2019, The Official Launch!

If that was my calendar, I’d change at least the two before workouts and maybe two after workouts into easy days, something like Petite. Chad did say to treat this workout like an event. I’m sure you’ll get better advice but I don’t think it’ll derail your plan, just listen to your body.

Myself I’m due to finish SSB one week before this, so I’m going to have to push my calendar a week at some point and also make so decisions on what to place in there. Might just do this before the plan starts.
I’ll be taking a taper week leading up to Disaster and go with feeling afterwards for recovery. Will be due to start a build the week after, but a ramp on Monday after this isn’t going to happen.

On a side note, last year I did a ramp test around a week before Disaster 2018… the increase in FTP at the time I cursed more than once on the day during the event, it was only an 9w increase but regardless it was felt, I’m not going to make that “mistake” again

Edit: Looks like I have a two week gap from end of plan, so a ramp is on the cards :S
There’s always the intensity tweak!

For the full D, I would plan a bit of a taper in, maybe one easy recovery ride and one shorter opener style workout in the days before.

Following, you may find that Mills could be a bit much only 2 days behind, but that is likely subjective. Be willing to listen to your body and consider dropping that workout down or substituting with something easier.

I haven’t done a trainer workout remotely close in length to Disaster, but I’ll take bathroom breaks on 1.5 or 2 hour sessions as needed. I just look for an opportune time between intervals to take care of business.

@mcneese.chad Brilliant, It would be great to get involved in this and not harm base work. Thanks for your comments and for organizing again with @zwillis1 and @bobmac :+1:

You can also consider doing the D-1 or D-2 version. They both offer the same basic demands, but at smaller bites that are easier to fit into an existing schedule.

I’m considering one of those for myself. Looking at my calendar, I’ve got 2 A races back to back weekends, finishing one week before Disaster Day. Not sure I want to take on the full version that close to finishing up cyclocross season since I usually like to take a short break of some sort to relax and do some fun rides. Not that the full version of Disaster doesn’t look fun.

I am back in for this year. I just hope my rocker plate is ready for December 14th so I can complete the full workout.

I will have to figure out this discord thing lol. I did a group training ride a few years ago on Zwift and was completely clueless lol.

I will add links to the group and instructions when we get going.

  • The text chat was the easiest and most well used in the event.
  • The audio chat is not too hard. You can use a mobile device or PC to do live voice chat.

This sounds bonkers. I’m in, December 14, Disaster -2. The longest I’ve sat on a trainer is two hours and even then I’ve stayed at Tempo and below. It’ll be an :sparkles: adventure :sparkles: . :biking_woman:  :biking_woman:

So in! Depending on the training leading up to it I might attempt a +1 version

I am planning a Disaster gathering in my pain cave. 3-4 friends and I doing it together should be somewhat fun :stuck_out_tongue:

Ditto. I did last year with a training partner. If I finish the rebuild of my training area, I will have room for 4 riders

Well since I was dumb enough to join you lunatics last year, I might as well do it again. Count me in!

But in all seriousness, this was an awesome event last year. The discord chat was super lively and I’m sure everyone who participated got something out of it. I can’t wait to do it again, or at least to unclip at that 4:15:00 mark and know I made it.

Officially on the calendar, it fell on week 4 of SSBHV1 so I had to move a couple things to get easy days before and after. May end up dropping the Monday workout afterwords down in volume. We’ll see, we’re still 2 months out, plenty of time to reevaluate

I’m in, one way or another. I was already scheduled for a 2:45 trainer ride, so maybe Disaster -1 is the way to go.
