My attempt at Disaster -2 went… disasterously. It was going to be a tough ask considering how the last 2-3 weeks have gone. I knew I was in trouble when I need to take a break on the second interval
. I’ll rest up and take a shot at one of them again before the month is out.
Full Disaster done a bit over an hour ago.
First I thought of doing -1, but eventually took this.
Nutrition was ok. About three liters of PowerBar IsoMax drink, two PowerBar RideEnergy bars, two gels with caffeine and a banana.
Took one bathroom break after the first firewoks hit, also to change a dry kit on.
Otherwise all was ok, no major problems, but the fireworks part really thrashed my arms. I had to have a short break basically after every hit, to get trough the SS parts.
All in all, I’m very happy that I was able to finish this strong. I knew that the fireworks might be killing the handbikers, being on so late in the session. Now a well-earned rest and maybe some pizza, and back on the bike probably next Monday with some easy session, switching the scheduled Spencer +2 on some later day during the week.
Good luck all of you on the task at hand! Unfortunately I wasn’t able to take part on the Discord chat, but will be cheering on all you!

Awesome work!!
You guys are all doing so well!
Just inspiring. That is for taking the chance on this crazy journey ![]()
It was all going so well until the fireworks. Did the first three sprints, but was getting more and more bogged down, so decided to backpedal through the rest of them. It still felt tough! One short break before vo2max to grab some coffee.
Went a bit nuts on the 3rd sprint in the warmup - 175rpm, 700+ W.
Thanks for the moral support on Discord and huge respect to anyone who gets through this 100% on target.
Completed just over an hour ago. The sprints towards the end were brutal. Came to a standstill on the penultimate one.
Consumed thanks to help from the wife bringing me food and drink throughout.
3 x 750 ml bottles with PH 1500
1 Coffee
3 slices of toast
3 oat bars
Well done to those who have attempted and completed so far and good luck to those who are doing it later.
Madness!
Done - 80% dark chocolate and water throughout
Did it with 2 liters of water, 2 bananas 2 energy bars and a light breakfast
Dang. I’m over prepared (I hope) ![]()
Bagel with peanut butter and honey + oatmeal.
Got way more at the bike than I need, but I like options.
1 peanut butter and honey sandwich
1 banana
6 bars of different flavors
4 packs of chews
8 gels
And to break up the sweet above:
1 jalapeno beef stick
Salt and vinegar chips
Chocolate covered espresso beans
2x tall Clif mix bottles
2x tall water bottles
I probably wont even eat 1/4, but its there.
I went all @Nate_Pearson with 90g porridge oats with frozen fruit and Greek yoghurt and three coffees before. Then all I consumed during was 4 bottles of Maurten 320. Seemed ok.
Second threshold felt better than the first, which seemed odd? Possibly should have done a threshold-centric warmup or something. VO2max was doable mostly because I knew there were only three of them. Fireworks were a real bear: I stayed seated for the sprints and just spun as fast as I could control. One of them caught me by surprise, so that was a fun 8 seconds.
I was pretty well fueled coming into it (did the ride about three hours after a good breakfast), so during the ride I had one 750ml of water, and two Nakd bars.
Everybody on Discord was amazing. Doing this bizarre thing with a bunch of other people also doing the bizarre thing was super fun, and I’ll absolutely be back next year. Mad props to everybody doing the -1 and full versions, you’re beasts.
You will get fat ![]()

Starting 17h30 UTC so in the doc aded my name at 6pm because it’s the closest I think.
Done! Absolutely horrible but made it.
Missed my planned start time due to waking up late with a slight hangover (terrible idea to go to a whisky bar last night). HR was really high through the warm-up, probably down to being dehydrated and the 10 min threshold intervals were awful.
Went to some very dark places during the VO2s and found the ‘fireworks’ section the hardest. Had to backpedal after some of the sprints.
Will pay much more attention to nutrition if I do it again. Made it through on about 4 bottles of SiS energy drink and 4 nutella crepes.
Chapeau to anyone doing any version of this brutality!
Awesome job to everyone attempting this!
Started this one fasted as I do all my workouts, but took on 3 cliff bars and 3 22oz bottles of water during to complete. I thought the fireworks section would do me in, but I was able to make it though.
Thanks to all the TR Zwifters for the ride ons! It helped a bunch having the support of others!
Good luck to everyone yet to go!
That was something! This being my last day in a 8 week 70.3 build and having already racked up some TSS and fatigue this week I did -2. Good decision, don’t think I could have done -1 and definetely not the full monster.
Added 10min extra warm up and 5 cool down for a nice 2:30 on the trainer. Had some snowboarding and later live CX racing on the screen, Zwift on the small screen and TR and discord on my phone. A bottle of water, a small bidon with water / maple syrup and a handful of gummy bears. Didn’t change shirt or headband, but would have had to had I gone any longer.
I was surprised how “easy” the workout flew by. Seeing others on discord and Zwift suffering through the same or harder workout gave me purpose and inspiration, at no point did I consider running away. Surely the group effort helps to keep a clear mind.
I’m now having a local IPA, made chocolate cookies and stuffed my face with raw dough, next is a cold slice of pizza and then I’m off to an early bed time. What a wonderful day, thanks @zwillis1 and @mcneese.chad for setting this up. Thanks also to all the others taking part and inspiring me to do this! You are all excellent if not slightly mad humans.
I had prosciutto and pears. And coffee. And a little later, bacon and eggs. I did the minus-2 version. Not bad at all.
