It’s not all suffering, have some entertainment lined up and check this chat out. U can tell when people are in recovery sections ![]()
Hmmm… Baxter or Disaster??
First post in this forum saved for this day, disaster day. It was viewed as a challenge, nothing more. It did not go entirely as planned but given that it coincided with the recovery week after sweetspot LV I, I am very pleased with my performance. After the first base phase, I did 2 VO2max, Baird and Brasted drills last week with the aim of feeling better this day before starting the recovery week and after that, new Ramp Test and Trulli -1. I preferred to do the Ramp Test before this day so as not to influence it and I think it was the best option because I didn’t want to do the same without being fully recovered and I preferred to do it before.
Regarding Disaster Day, it was difficult, very difficult. The last Threshold interval was already very complicated and I thought that after the VO2max series it was all easier, but no. The 3min sweetspot series followed by the 8sec anaerobic sprints leave marks … and a lot, so much that I was forced to lower the trainer intensity to 90% after the 3rd interval. The heart rate no longer dropped and, as if that were not enough, cramps began to appear. It was the right decision to complete the training session.
Regarding nutrition: 2 bottles 750ml water, 1 bottle 750ml Sponser Long Energy drink, 1.5 bottles 750ml SIS Electrolites, 3 SIS Isotonic Gels, 1 SIS Electrolites gel, 1 Zip Vit caffeine energy gel, 2 Sis Go Energy Bars, 1 Veloforte Energy Bar and 1 Push Endurance Bar.
Both!
Great work! Don’t sorry about turning it down. The fireworks break a lot of people!
My legs were blowing, that was the right decision.

Really impressed for anyone who does the -1 or full version.

I’m likely out for tomorrow due to lingering cold and family stuff. I hope to attempt it next Saturday (not sure which version). Good luck everyone!
Yep! While there is an “official” Disaster week (9-15th) and group day (tomorrow), we will certainly accept any D version during any part of the “D” month
as participating in this great event.
As for doing it to celebrate your birthday, absolutely, it’s a great idea! Nothing better than suffering on your birthday!
FWIW: I have used my b’day for attempting highly coveted PRs and treating it as a B event (rested, diving really deep). and it is so much fun eating fattening donuts to celebrate when I am done
!
Change in plans. Not possibile to start at 9UTC, life getting in the way. I’ll do it only after lunch tomorrow. No exact time yet but I’ll update the Google doc before starting.
Gave the full version a go
For the most part treated it like a normal workout and continued with the sustained build workouts earlier in the week so came in with a bit of fatigue
It was pretty tough but doable with the last few bursts at the end being killer having to fight against the erg mode death spiral and then spin back up for the next SS section
Nutrition wise I under-did it
Just before starting had a large bowl of porridge with honey and a double espresso
During had 3 x 700 ml bottles electrolyte + 1 bottle of torq energy
1 gel before starting the vo2 section
and snacked on a small bowl of dates + mixed lollies
Afterwards a recovery drink and some fresh hot jam doughnuts ![]()
Way to go for a first post, impressive performance!
After killing myself last year doing this, I said never again…
Currently assembling water bottles…![]()

Good luck to the other 9 am UTC participants. Need to find out how to get to Discord while not leaving the bike for the next 4 hours.
Good chat already going! I’m through the first two threshold and going strong!
Disaster-1 done and dusted. Colonial IPA done and dusted. [Proper recovery drinks / nutrition as well.]
Cool day [20 degrees], with a stiff breeze, so took trainer outside with a floor fan. 3 bottles High-5 Zero; one Winners nutrition bar immediately beforehand; two energy bars and one SIS gel during. Seemed to be enough.
The real tests started with the VO2 intervals. Then the sprints were hardly up to scratch. But overall: happy [and weary].
Good luck everyone else-- the world isn’t coming to an end today: today has already happened in Australia.
Finished complete disaster a couple of minutes a go.
It went okay, but I did get of the bike a couple of times to grab a sandwich and let the dogs out in the garden.
It was hard but doable until the ss with sprints. I ain’t it good sprinter for starters let alone after about 3,5 hours
. I needed to backpaddle for a bit there.
But I am very satisfied with te result and going to take a rest now
Well done to all that completed this so far as this year it beat me!
Early morning, lacking fuel for sure as little to eat last night and I’m not an earlier morning consumer, found it hard to get calories in at 6am. Was cramping with warm up sprints, this wasn’t a good sign…, having to turn down intensity on threshold efforts in first hour, also not a good sign.
Spent the last half hour 70:30 split pedalling with left knee giving lots of pain… so put it in resistance mode and coasted. Was also going light headed on sitting up through out, so called it a day and pulled the plug with 40 minutes left on the clock.
Last time I did early mornings sessions was years ago, maybe should have done this at my normal time. Anyway got 25 laps of Volcano in and it wasn’t a waste of my time. Only saw one other briefly around Zwift, so a bit quiet there.
Good luck to everyone else doing this, sure you’ll do better than my effort this year ![]()
Great work, regardless! Sorry I wasnt able to Zwift it this year!
