I’m going through Sustained Power LV. I had looked at the mid-volume and cutting the recovery ride, but the workouts are all 1:15-2:00 and I only have 0:45-1:00 to ride 4 days a week (maybe a touch longer on weekends). I’m using the LV plan and want to add a 4th ride in there giving me 3 days off a week.
Any thoughts on what rides would be a good supplement to that plan? I’m thinking of some structured intervals, but I guess I could also just add in an easy hour ride outside on the weekend and do the 3 structured rides during the week.
When in doubt: Geiger (or other sweet spot). Unless you’re feeling fatigued, in which case Baxter, Colosseum, or something similar in the endurance zone.
When you compare the low- and mid-volume plans, the mid-volume is not adding much additional time at or above threshold. Instead, it’s mostly adding endurance-intensity (either by tacking on some time at the end of a high-intensity workout, or by adding the Wednesday ride) or it’s adding sweet spot (the Sunday ride). You can apply this same approach and use the 4th workout to increase time at either Sweet Spot or at Endurance intensity; which one you choose probably depends how much you want to increase your training stress.
