Why a high-intensity workout as the first workout upon returning from an illness?

In the middle of a training plan, I added a 3-week annotation of type Illness to insert a bout I had with a viral infection.

I didn’t train or ride during these three weeks.

After the plan automatically adapted, it provided a VO2 max workout as the first workout to resume training. I’m going to do an hour of endurance instead.

But why would the plan give a high-intensity workout as the first workout upon returning from an illness?

The system unless you have RLGL change will just have a PL adjusted version of what was in your plan but if you feel you are not ready for it just use ‘Alternates’ to swap it for an achievable workout what you feel is right.

Also, if you can send me your TR username over DM that would be great  I can’t seem to find it. This way I can take a look at your plan to make sure all is well.

Ok, I just looked at your training plan and all is well

The plan has adjusted this week’s workouts to lower Workout Levels due to your time off being sick.

The VO2 Max workout level you have for today is a 1.5, which should be pretty toned down as a comeback workout, then you have an endurance workout, followed by a 2.2 Threshold. I would give today’s workout a try! If the workout goes well, then that’s great. But if you struggled a bit, then that’s giving the system more data to tone things down further. Alternatively, you can choose a Workout Alternate or choose an Endurance workout from TrainNow.
