I much prefer riding outside specifically off road. I am trying to figure out how to fit in more mountain biking (specifically single speed). Since you cannot ride easy on a single speed, I am think I should replace maybe the sweet spot day and try to get the same amount of sweet spot time in. Thoughts?
My current training plan week looks about like this:
Mon 1.5hr easy
Tue rest
Wed 1 hr VO2 workout (inside)
Thur 1.5hr easy
Fri 1.5hr sweet spot
Sat 2 hr threshold
Sun 3 hr endurance
First off, so cool that you ride a single speed! I never got around to buying one, but I always praise ppl that ride them!
I agree. Switching out the SS effort makes sense on a single speed, as you can try to mimic the efforts.
The only thing that concerns me a bit here is your recovery. You’re going straight into a High Volume, which may be quite a bit of load in comparison to your training history.
I’d suggest lowering the volume and adding as you see fit, and not the other way around.
You could do something like:
Mon 1.5hr easy
Tue rest
Wed 1 hr VO2 workout (inside)
Thur 1.5hr easy
Fri 1.5hr threshold
Sat rest
Sun 2 hr endurance (MTB Single speed)
I think it depends what your trails are like. Where i live, with punchy climb, not way id be in sweetspot on a SS, id be WAY above it on every hill. But if tou have long less steep hill, sst or threshold may work fine
