After 18years I think I’ve repeated what ever I did to my IT band yesterday’s gravel ride so I was a bit tentative about today’s group road ride but it seemed fine 99% of the time. Going back home through town though I think an unexpected stop or more regular unclipping set it off again and the knee felt a bit unstable when I put the bike away. At least the weather was good!
Hope it heals fast
Rode with the neighborhood crew - 2 couples and I was the 5th wheel.
The Italian retired head chef insisted we stop about half-way for coffee:
2 rivers route with some detours and new bike trails, here is where the American River empties the Sierra Nevada snowpack melt into the Sacramento River:

It was the club’s reliability ride today and with this knee I’d be unreliable. I’d have to get up early and didn’t know who would turn up anyway, So I joined a local ride instead which was going from Yaxley to Kimbolton and back and had a bit of a lie in.
Bald Mountain Hike
Western Maine, USA
Vacation! Rained a lot yesterday so some of the rocks were quite slippery. Great views from the top.
Did the Marmotte Granfondo this weekend, cracked on the Alp d’Huez pretty badly but was still a good experience and only missed my minimum goal of 8.30 official time by 2 minutes.
Did the Alp on Sunday again to enjoy it a bit more and set a good time but legs were a bit shot and didn’t have the head to suffer so just had a nice ride up it after pushing for 30 min.
I still don’t know why but we did the Alpe the day before the Marmotte. On the actual day in the heat I had something in the back of my mind, ‘its ok so stop, you did it in one the day before’. In the end of the day I gave into that voice, I shouldn’t have done, lifting the leg over the bike I cramped big time and walk a few hairpins before it was free enough to get back on the bike.
Byron Bypass
Western Maine, USA
Did not take any of the KOMs I was going for but pleased with 3rd place on the Byron Wall climb. I was faster on Steepy Weepy last year on my Empire (endurance road bike) but way more comfortable and confident on the Seigla.
This area had record flooding in the spring due to a lot of rain, and there were many repaired sections and new drainage routes beneath the road. The only really bad section was right before the Tumbledown Brook Trail trailhead where they are using super chunky gravel to repair the road - very different from everywhere else. ![]()
That looks like a perfect day on the bike!!
59F at the start (so I wore arm warmers), low humidity, low wind, clear skies, great gravel, only one car and that was at the every end so, yeah, pretty much perfect!!
Awesome pics, congrats on the 8:32 official time!
Podium spots and improvements over last year!
A quick ride before tea to test out my new toy. I think this knee is on the mend but I kept it mostly flat and on tarmac.
More pics and specs are required!!
Its from a small English company. I am not sure where they are actually manufactured though. It’s a Paradigm Verso titanium gravel bike. GRX equiped. Ive not got round to taking more pics of it yet. That’ll have to wait now as I’m supposed to be sleeping but you’ll be sick of them in a bit ![]()

Perfect weather this morning, and it was nice and cool so I thought I’d grab some pics on my endurance ride:
This is kind of the gateway that opens into some of my favorite riding:
Some cows.
Full disclosure, there’s a barn about a hundred yards to the left of the above picture and it absolutely smells like it. You do get used to it pretty quickly, though.
The geese own the pond. They have no fear whatsoever of humans, so if you get too close when the goslings are around, they’ll straight-up charge you to chase you away.
Another pond.
These look like they should be on a VT tourism website
Definitely jealous these are your local roads.
Yeah, that spot with the cows is about a mile and a half from my house, up a little hill, and it’s like a perfect transition from everyday life into Riding a Bike. I ride around the west half of the pond on the bottom and the frogs were crazy loud today, so it was extra cool.
