Hi all
My A race is in a week. I plan on starting an FTP booster after a week of rest, but was wondering if I should wait and just do base for the winter. Will an FTP booster last?

What’s an ftp booster?
do you mean this zwift “plan?”:
not really impressed with the workouts in zwift in general, but even less with the plans…
Maybe you are on the wrong forum, but you would be better of with a specialty block in TR
(/edit, didn’t read the timing correctly… specialty is of course before an event…, just start base after)
A specialty block after an A event???
Unless you have another event of interest where this “boost” would pay dividends, my gut says it’s not the right time to do that. But the devil is in the details we don’t have, with respect to your calendar and goals.
Hey Sean,
We explain the basic science behind increasing your FTP in this article: How to Increase your FTP. The best way to increase your FTP is to increase your aerobic energy system.
All TrainerRoad Plans will increase your FTP. The Time Trial Training Plan is most concerned with improving your FTP due to the simplicity of this event.
Do you have any other races scheduled for the remainder of the year or are you now looking ahead to next season?
If you are now looking ahead to build for next season, we reccomend a little bit of downtime before starting your next Training Plan so that you go into the next season excited and ready for hard work.
Let us know if you have questions about any of this!
Thanks for the feedback. No not the swift plans, I only meant I was planning on doing some structured training focusing on FTP rather than base. The heart of the question is whether a lab FTP structured plan now would be worth while now since I won’t any races fondos for about 4 months
If you do a month of hard work to try to raise FTP and then consolidate it with endurance riding and an occasional bit of sweetspot or FTP work until your next big day, that sounds great. I’m assuming you’re feeling fresh and ready to work.
If you do a month of hard work and either follow it with:
A) 3 more months of hard work; or
B) 3 months feeling jaded and eating donuts on the couch.
… not so much.
Thanks for that. I don’t have anything scheduled for an about three or four months so sounds a little hard work now won’t go to waste!
Much appreciated! Happy riding!
