I started riding around 5 miles twice a week towards the end of 2018. A buddy and I started riding about 20-30 miles every other weekend in February of 2019. In June of 2019 I performed my first ramp test where I got an FTP of 165.
My current FTP is 206. 27 years old at 152lb and 5’10"
Off the couch (never touched a race bike, no sports for 10+years) I was at 120W, 90 kg according to Zwift (January 2018).
December 2019 I am up to 293W, 82 kg.
I got a bike in 2015 and a gps watch that December. 2016 I rode about 1200 miles. October 2017 I got a power meter and my first 20min FTP test (outside) was 185. Probably around 160lb, on a tri bike in aero.
I don’t know how the hell some people roll off the couch and are pushing 250+ watts on day 1
no “training” this year for 6 ish months only outside casual XC MTB riding then 2 months otc and my new FTP is 177 it peaked at 270 a few years ago. Usually hangs around 230 ish.
There’s a chart floating around that says untrained is about 2.5w/kg and a good Cat 3 is about 4w/kg. Now. It doesn’t mean you’re a lock for a win Cat 5 at 4w/kg as there are many other factors that play.
Trained, since starting utilizing TR in Jan 2018: 295w (4.2w/kg); 300w (4.28w/kg), 306w (4.43w/kg), 308w (4.46w/kg), & currently doing TR workouts at 311-323w FTP setting (upping add’l % intensity depending on type … @ 4.56 - 4.7w/kg)
(edit: w/kg metrics added throughout based on weight at various snap-shot times… also, I’m a high volume rider… avg 20hrs total time per week, for the last 4 years… adding in, cherry-picking TR workouts into those 20hrs for the last 2 years based on areas I’ve wanted to improve. hard to say if I’d see more/less gains with more structure and less volume or not…)
My FTP was around 150 - 160 a year ago after a year of doing nothing, which equated to under 2w/KG. I am now at 314W and just over 4W/KG after a year of Training and hope I have some more room to move up.
Untrained about 280 at 105 kg with strength sports background, trained 380-390 W at 86-88 kg with a lot leaner body. A year between these results so I’m waiting eagerly to see what the next year will bring. I think I can still go down under 80 kg staying healthy and get my FTP (or at least TTE at FTP) up a bit.
