Did Echo +5 last night. Was getting grippy towards the end but glad to get through it. Was a sweaty mess by the end though.
Awesome
It’s one thing to successfully complete a workout, but it feels so good to really crush it!!
Mystic, CT, USA // 2 min vo2
I’m up here for work for a couple of days, then heading to meet the family in Maine for vacation. Was a bit crunched for time so just did some 2-min VO2 intervals along Mystic River Road. Quite scenic - but didn’t have time for pics (sorry) - just Google it. Also very quiet, not a single car passed me on this stretch.
Especially as there’s an empty spot for a fourth challenge! ![]()
My schedule changed up a bit and I tried to merge two workouts into one, essentially I completed my 4x16 threshold intervals and then added endurance to compensate for the length of time of the workout that I’ll be missing. I was pretty rested, it’s the last workout of my polarized build and next week is a recovery week, so I ended up doing it.
The threshold went as can be expected - they got harder but my watts were pretty steady. 281, 280, 279, 277…then another 1:45 of endurance to polish it off.
I was toast at the end and it definitely felt like a race effort…0.79 IF for the session, 2600 kcals burned, started at 66 degrees and ended at 86…drank and ate a bunch the whole time and legs like jelly afterwards. Time to chill.
Yesterday was split 5x6mins “vO2” hitting 106%. It should probably be called supra-threshold. VO2 is easy for mountain bikers.
Today was 3x12 threshold over-unders at 90-110%. Threshold is hard for non-road riders.
Lag on the Tacx Flux S is common now for me, or is TR seeing me struggle and not going over on my over-understand because it sees my heart rate is so high? ![]()
Unless you’ve got a history of heart problems I would try not to pull the plug on the basis of HR, it can be very misleading sometimes and can scare you into stopping. Some users cover it (the bpm figure) up I believe.
Our son has been keeping us up the past two weeks approx. 7-10 times a night and therefore my recovery has been really really poor. HR is just another indicator to how I feel overall and seeing these high numbers on that kind of workout is not normal for me hence confirming my ‚feel‘ that I should stop today. HR alone is probably not the right indicator, I agree. All things considered I‘m glad I tried but it’s ok I quit too.
4x 8 min threshold
Plus some extra. Perfect weather today for an outside ride but needed to start yard work early before it got too hot, so the trainer it was. Went up Crow Road climb in Zwift four times on this ride. Guess I’m going for that Legs of Steel badge.
One of the trees in our front yard thought it would be a good idea to try growing into the roof. Had to show that tree who was boss!
The oak near the road was encroaching on the sidewalk so we carved out a walking path beneath it. The 7 and 12 year old boys were helpful. Now it’s time to wake up my 16 and 21 year olds to help haul.
I’ve been off the bike for the past couple of weeks due to an umbilical hernia (and out of an abundance of caution skipped my last two XC races of the season
). I’ve decided that I felt good enough to ride tonight. I probably pushed myself too hard but it was such a short climb that I just had to suffer a little.
