Well done! That looks brutal.
I had planned to do an outside workout but the UK train strike meant the train I’d usually get was cancelled and I’d be at least half an hour late. I still harboured some hope of getting out but some poor soul on that train had a heart attack and that train was cancelled too. So I got home an hour late and on a dull night the light was fading fast, so turbore trainer it was for Bashful -1. Even with 4 fans it’s too hot in my narrow pain corridor at this time of year. . I didn’t have the best of warm ups either, with the gear cable snapping straight away. So I could get the session in I tightened the limit screws so I wasn’t cross chaining and the chain would run smooth but after a few moments I discovered I should have tightened the limit screw more (forced the bike into a lower gear), I couldn’t without dropping cadence fall to the power target on recoveries (even on 0 resistance) and resistance mode was too slow to change up without gears. Another spanner in the works was I couldn’t get the garmin working. I prefer to read power of it when I’m chewing the TT poles and I also like to see my %max HR.
First challenging ride since getting knocked off my bicycle a couple of weeks ago. Wasn’t sure how it would go as my ribs are still quite bruised and that seems to be impacting my ability to breathe when it gets highly aerobic. I have mostly just been doing some easy endurance and sweetspot to keep my legs going while I have been recovering.
Tuesdays VO2 Max session - I was pretty crushed by the end of this workout. I think the heat in my garage is at least a factor in how hard these have been. Anyhow, it kicked my butt.
Today, Friday I got a little redemption on my threshold workout. I fueled up yesterday and had some carbs and caffeine this moring before starting this workout. Also, it was nice and overcast this morning and despite the high humidity it was felt so much better in my garage. I was a couple of watts shy of target on each of these but still I felt pretty strong and knocked off a PR for season on this for 44 minute power.
Looking forward to a nice endurance ride Sunday and next week is the last build week of this block before recovery. TGIF y’all.
I really need to get better at posting in this thread more consistently lol.
Yesterdays was Panther. First time I’ve done this one since i started using TR like 5 years ago.
The 3 minute jobbies were tough. The 1 minute intervals at the end were fine even with the shortened rest between them.
The VO2max workouts i struggle with are 30 on, 15/20s off. The less than 1-1 recovery really destroys me - suppose it’s an excuse to do them more… Sigh lol
Great power control, especially given the undulating terrain!
Thanks but it was on Zwift with workout mode in resistance, so not that difficult to hold constant power.
Had my first accident on the road. Train tracks that I’ve been over at least a dozen times are apparently treacherous when wet.
I have a top tube bag and it dumped my stuff all over the road. Lots of nice people stopped to ask if I was okay and all i wanted to do was limp around in a circle. Mostly minor damage but it looks like someone dipped a tennis ball in red paint and hit he in the hip with it. My youngest came to pick me up and we forgot the wheel so they had to make two trips.
It was my first time riding in new matching kit so I’m pretty sure that was the cause. ![]()
The shower was awful, the little spots stung a lot but the pain in the big one was frankly incredible. My left elbow hurts but i dont think its broken or fractured. i basically jammed it by apparently trying to stiff arm the ground. I’m icing it but if it isnt a lot better tomorrow ill probably go to the dr.
Sorry to hear. Hope the injuries are nothing serious. Recommend hydrogen peroxide (that’ll hurt, too, sorry), antibiotic, and airing at night.
A sympathy like, not an actual like, heal fast!
There’s no way we can answer that with only a graph.
- Cliché: How did the workout feel?
Check out this lengthy topic with good discussion:
Despite all the discussion about workout surveys I still struggle to answer them. On a scale from 1-5 I‘d give it a 3. VO2 workouts are supposed to be hard but I could have gone longer or harder. Moderate feels not 100% right but then again I could‘ve completed another set of those 1 min efforts that’s why I gave it a ‚moderate‘. Coming off a breakthrough treshold workout yesterday I think moderate for this one was appropriate but then again could have just been a good day for me. So ![]()

Well, that = Hard in the TR survey world:
- Going with your gut makes sense to me, generally speaking.
When in doubt, it may be safest to pick the “harder” of a ratings. In either case, you can always pick a slightly harder or easier workout in that zone when you hit it later this week or next. It’s not a set in stone choice, so just make a pick and roll with it.
First post for a while, and don’t have a current TR subscription, but I had it in my mind that I wanted to hit “five by five”… and I did - probably somewhere at around 105-110% FTP. Pretty sure that 3 minutes of rest isn’t normally the prescription & that’s almost certainly not followed by a load of 15s sprints!
Last weeks VO2 max workout kicked my butt, this week I kicked it’s butt!
Last vo2 workout in this build block and eventhough I had an easier 6.5 workout scheduled, I decided to bump up target 5% which would basically put me back at last week’s 7.5 workout targets, but with a 3-minute rest period instead of 4 minutes, so it as actually more difficult. (I’m such a bad ass right now) I was able to hit targets on 3/4 but more importantly I just felt way stronger this time around.
At about a month out from my next target event I’m looking to keep this momentum going.
