Whorl was in my calendar tonight and I decided to do it on the virtual slopes Mont Ventoux. I recreated the work out in TP so I could jump on the trainer and follow it without setting up TR too. I dropped the slope to 45% also, so I had nice spinny gears too.
Pretty sure this is the first time I’ve ever went beyond 7 on any progression. Good thing my cave was 55 degrees Fahrenheit but I still needed two fans. Sweet spot base phase 2.
Chicoma -2 was a bit too much after such a draining work day. I managed to finish after dropping it 5%, but in hindsight I could have just done 2-3%, but needing to get off the bike to run to the computer to change it back was too annoying to bother doing. This was the last SS of this block. Can’t wait for rest week.
I believe that one is on my calendar for next week too, the last sweet spot workout before my easy week. I’ll do these all day over those 40-20 VO2 intervals!
Legs were still feeling tired from OUs and treadmill hill work the other day so I swapped days around in Calendar. Did a nice zone2 recovery run in the hills (still a little muddy out there), legs needed it. Will do Sweetspot session next and push VO2 max workout to another day.
I didn’t have any 40/20, but I had 30/15s. Only got up to 5.2 vo2 though lol. 7.2 SS is actually probably the highest I’ve gone up to do far. I would have done an alternate, but all the alternates were basically the same lol.
At 50 years old, it’s my first time trying structured training. I’m up 28 Watts since I started a couple of months ago and started my first week of Sustained Power Build this week. Because I’m a singlespeed racer, I sprinkled in 6 one minute standing intervals.
This was just right at my limit. I barely avoided cracking by hanging tight while the clock was so slooooow. Each one was a close thing. Last one was easiest (finish line effect).
I’m doing a VO2max block to push through a plateau. Stoked to have nailed this one.
I believe this my first wo with 2.5min long intervals. New records between 2:11 to 2:50
Current PL is 5.8 and AT prescribed Dade+1 : a similar wo but PL 6.8 ( 9x2.5m @ 120%) which seemed too ambitious. I could have done 1 more - not sure about 3 more.
This was marked down as a stretch and appears it was. The last sweetspot workout last week was 4.9 and this moved up to 6.0. After the end of the first set and start of second, I knew after that 4th sprint my legs would never make it to the end. So settled down in to what was achievable and switched over to resistance.
Think my legs need a week off,! The cumulative fatigue over the last few weeks I’m really feeling it… plan a 30 minute zone 2 trail run in dark later with other half and take Saturday as a full rest day.
Have a 10 mile trail run/race on Sunday, but plan to just take it easy, run it slow and enjoy the trail.
Had a great 90 zone 2 outside but came home to a somewhat stressed partner and somehow stopped my bolt uploading/saving it.
Wouldn’t be the worst thing if it was purely z2 but after the block I had a quick go at Kom I wanted and felt really strong!
Guess I’ll have to head that way again soon!
Today I did my first ever SS workout. Normally iI ride in Z2 or aobe thresold, so it was fun and interesting to give it a go. I did 4x15min @88% and plan to make it a bit harder every week.
I gotta say, doing the long base phase really made huge improvements on sustainable power. After that workout I was able to hold ~250 watts at around 125 bpm. Felt like endurance stuff. I’m way more robust than last year, even if FTP is only 11 watts higher
