Sometimes Barra is quite Mallorcan like.

Not today though,

So I went somewhere warmer to do my TR workout, Collins.
Ok, now I’m more confused.
I did Pioneer+3 Monday to get a handle on my FTP. Dropped it down and then this workout was a doddle.
A few possibilities.
- I’m definitely better fueled. I’ve been hovering around 76kg for a few weeks and have been smashing oats (carbs in general) etc for several days and am back to sitting around 77kg.
- It may just be that my TTE is very short at my Lactate Threshold (the higher FTP number).
- Or (very much hopefully not) my trainer is giving me false numbers.
IG sharing is still broken sorry - though I see there was an update pushed recently though I haven’t had the chance to update the app
I haven’t been posting in this thread recently, but have been having somewhat similar conflicting experiences in my threshold block following my late vo2max block. Can put out higher power, but can’t sustain it worth a damn. Here are a couple thoughts I’ve been having.
My (bad) understanding is that major adaptations continue to occur until 4-6 weeks following the work that you did. That means that while the recovery week following the vo2 block may have allowed my legs to rebound, the full effect of the adaptations are still taking place.
Vo2 blocks tend to increase FTP with a corresponding decrease in TTE (due to lack of good extensive work done during the block at higher power). WKO5 is convinced my FTP increased 10 watts by that vo2 block, but also puts me at 32 minute TTE – which is ridiculously short. I’m trying to push out that TTE now with varying success.
I’m still holding my breath until I finish the block out to have a more concrete verdict on what is going on for me. We’ll see where things stand.
Edit: 76% (1h 8m) Endurance and 16% (14m 30s) Tempo.
My Wednesday/Saturday compact TiZ Z2 90 minute session for the foreseeable future whilst toughening the bum for new Power Expert saddle.
3 short standing intervals for breaks, but feeling the effect of longest sustained ride I’ve done in a good way.
Train Now has finally recognised I’m a lazy B and is now recommending workouts above endurance ones for me. It recommended Pyramidal tonight for me and it looked interesting but not too taxing on a rest week so I gave it a go. As per the past few rides I ran it in parallel on RGT so I had something more interesting to look at.
3 x 10 Tempo
Nothing special, but it is the first set of intervals above endurance in nearly six weeks. The cycling portion of the FasCat 10-Week Weight Lifting program is similar to Traditional Base MV.
On a related note my daughter needed help with physics tonight. Needless to say I was all over this particular problem. We even used my bike and a carpenter’s square as props.

Good luck!
That’s a massive bump ![]()

Ha thanks! Had ACL surgery earlier this year and started back training 6 weeks ago. I knew it would come back fast but dang! This is my highest measured FTP. I guess the rehab/gym work really works!
Ok, I’m torn. It seems like my FTP from the 45min TT is too low. More testing required.
It’s great for my confidence crushing workouts, but AT is now throwing a bunch of 9.6 level workouts at me.
It could be the GU Roctane I’ve had immediately before the last two sessions (PED?). I’ve calibrated my trainer several times per ride.
Maybe I’m just reaping the benefits of the VO2 block all of a sudden.
Nice SS workout for a Saturday. Not too long, not too short. Fueling up now to hopefully be raring again Monday morning.
Also, I know this isn’t a “Workout” for the Workout Thread, but I just logged my biggest week since getting back on the bike. Definitely my biggest since training by Power. I’ve done longer in terms of hours years ago when training for Ironman, the TSS wouldn’t have been this high I don’t think.
Ramp test yesterday with a +5 since last one 12 days earlier and HR got to 169, but legs were steaming already around threshold and eventually cooked.
Today’s Z2 which was moderate bordering to hard, so good workout for muscle endurance which most definitely is a significant weakness.
Nice to be aware of where one has potential to build onto, so onward with new block on Monday with the goal to ride SS 92% for 60 minutes eventually.
Disaster -1
That went surprisingly well. Glad I opted for the -1 version instead of the full. I had a lot of reservations since I have only done Traditional Base MV for the last six weeks but I really only struggled with the 200% sprints at the end, which are a weakness for me anyway.
Because of the feel or because you have done this workout? If latter then probably no:)
Some amazing things happen after vo2 block. Suddenly you are ripping every sst and threshold workout as it is tempo. So maybe it’s that.
New FTP after SSBMV 1 and 2 . Highest ever 264 aged 64.
Upped it from 245 to 250 after SSBMV 1 and then a 14 watt increase today.
AT has really worked for me. I have been consistent with my training, been able to hit all the targets and when I didn’t fancy one of the longer weekend rides I would substitute with a shorter version.
Added volume with FulGaz rides, mostly endurance pace and then had one hardish effort a week which often replaced a planned threshold workout.
As I am doing Disaster on Monday I think I might leave my FTP as is until Tuesday.
