What workout did you do today? (2021, part 2)

3 x 20 sweet spot at slightly higher % FTP than last week. The turbo decided to throw in some weird power spikes in the last two intervals :man_shrugging:

Black Pine this evening.

AT had me back down at 4.5 for V02Max after my small FTP bump from Wednesday’s ramp test

Pleased to carve this one out at 5.1 - the last 2 minutes of the final interval we’re tough but not as bad as I’d imagined :grinning:

That looks particularly draining with the short breaks between intervals- nice effort :muscle:t2:

Couple TR rides this week. My workout streak is now over 700 days in a row. Another month and it’ll be indoors all the time and focus will shift from riding to more weight lifting for a few months.

I admit to doing the Black Giant workout tonight just to get the PL level breakthrough celebration animation at the end. Kinda fun to do all those short efforts for a change instead of grinding along at SST or Threshold though.

I completed Mont Albert fasted & no fan this morning (playing around with different combos)

Spent around 45 minutes in either the drops / hoods / aero too.

Felt very comfortable, hence my power being over target.

I normally don’t like over/unders but I found this workout enjoyable. I really like the endurance before starting to work. Here are my notes:

Felt good, probably because I finally got a good night of sleep. Not long enough but better than the previous week.

Felt like I could have done another four minutes during the first set. Last set was tough and glad I was done. Really like the extended endurance before working.

4x8 indoors never feels right.

Also appear to have been cheated out of my PL increase. Damn robots. (On edit: robots have been fixed. Thx TR help desk).

(Target was 224w and the interval AP were: 225, 225, 224, 223. With the last one being ragged)

A couple of times the web site has said immediately after no PL increase for me but 15mins later it does :exploding_head:

I got the celebration animation at the end of the workout so am happy - LOL

Omfff … 4 x 7 @ 108%. Very Hard. Debated about marking it All Out.

Yeesh! First of a three week VO2 focus. Tried to do them basically all out like @empiricalcycling says. New max HR and 40W bump in career three minute power. I couldn’t do them all at that intensity though.

I didn’t mean for it to be so long but I opted for 3min intervals instead of 4x5min at the last minute and got the math wrong.

Septerat Wednesday and Border Friday.

Time to cruise into race weekend…

Had Rattlesnake +2 on the schedule this morning, but didn’t have enough time to do a 90 minute workout, so asked TrainNow for a 60min “attacking” workout and it gave me Propsting.

The short ones were no problem, but holy cow, the last 30 secs of the longer intervals felt like forever. Took a lot of concentration to keep the line green!

It’s a recovery week for me and tonight Bald Knob, the performance was as about as flat as the Scotland game I’m listening too :-1:

VO2 Block - Workout 2/9

Didn’t get the same response as the 3min jobbers of Judith on Monday. I suspect the drop down in intensity didn’t get my system up high enough initially and then the fatigue made it harder to lift. Or it might be purely the cadence being ~4rpm lower :man_shrugging:.

Still a satisfying workout and a 5min PR.

Leavitt -1 Sweetspot 7.0

Zwift KOM climb for first half hence not reducing mid interval. Hard work pushing last third as visually I was either descending or on the flat. Maybe a little fatigue was still in legs from Sundays Half Marathon.

Managed to get through to the end, marked it down as “All out” as I was close to quitting, grinding 10 to 15 below my normal cadence and also hoping my PL’s won’t increase too much!

Threshold. Ugh. 2 more intervals than I’m used to in these types of workouts. On the last 2-3 the final minute had a hit to cadence and it was a struggle to keep it from falling more. But… completed it!

Then did this Z Academy Road ride right after, lol. During the app switch I somehow disabled ERG in Z which resulted in resistance mode with shifting to increase resistance. Easy spinning until the first timed sector then gunned it. Had to back off a little before pushing to the end. Not sure why I bothered with the middle sprint. Final volcano climb was steady pace until the last 1km then shifted 1 gear for the push to the top. Since my heel still bothers me I’ll be mixing in some of these rides for bonus TSS until race day in November.

Brasstown was in my calendar tonight. I wasn’t sure what to do to keep me from getting too bored on the turbore. Then I spotted this, love him or hate him, it was an interesting way to spend an hour and a half plus.

Aside from that podcast/ interview, I quite like the symmetry of having the average power = the max cadence.

Lesser Wedge. This is one of those hard/float workouts where you’re supposed to recover at sweet spot. I’ve always struggled with these, and this morning was no different. In the second set I just gave up on the sweet spot portions just to focus on the hard parts. Did reasonably well doing that, but by the end of the 4th set, I knew there was no way I would be able to finish the 5th.

The other thing that’s weird is that it’s listed as a VO2max workout but the hards are sprint level and the floats are sweet spot. I guess that averages out to VO2max, but does it really?
