What workout did you do today? (2021, part 1)

God I hate hard start vo2max work. Also 2 more days of this… send help

Nothing major from me tonight. I decided last week to lower the intensity of my midweek endurance ride to a purer recovery ride. So it was Pettit-1 rather than Pettit for me tonight.
To keep it kinda interesting I did it on the RGT virtual Borrego course and practiced holding my TT position for the hour.

working through a sweetspot progression, 2x30 today with 10 sec bursts

Rain Day = Rollers

Ericsson +4:

These are a lot more fun when they’re eight minutes long and there are four of them.

(Yes, I 100% skipped the isolated leg drill because it is LITERALLY THE WORST.)

Lamark this morning. For the entire workout all I had going through my head was the song “Return of the Mack” by Mark Morrison for obviously reasons  Felt exactly as prescribed - uncomfortable, but do-able. Good stuff. Also happy with my HRRc between intervals.

Mount Wood

First interval was worse than the last. Ditched the HRM midway through the set. I bought a cheap Lifeline HRM for indoor workouts a few weeks ago to save my garmin tri for runs and bricks. It was pretty good for about 4 weeks but is nearly completely useless now. If I stand up, go aero or sweat too much it drops down to 40-60bpm. I’ve had to swap over to the garmin mid-workout the last couple of times. I just gave up on it today. Did get good info out of it for one interval I guess - HR well depressed. All easy now until Sunday so I’ll get some recovery in.

I didn’t think this was going to be much of a challenge but I guess it was yesterdays 1.5 hr VO2 session plus not enough sleep… but wow, 2 hours seated… even watching X-Men reruns didn’t help the situation. My ass is toast and overall pretty beat. I hope you all have a good training!

Thimble +4 which was not fun after tuesday’s Spanish needle +2

Legs felt good so pedalled through.

Rest day tomorrow and then onto two weekend workouts I shall be compliant with…else I’ll be having words with myself.

Swim strength substitute AM, bike lunch, run PM

i did a 60 min hilly zone2 run at lunch today (i need to move to a flatter neighborhood) and have Tower coming-up in another hour or so. I’m really nervous about it for some reason. Might do Tower - 1 instead.

How was day 2 better than day 1 ?!

WFH = no commute = some Z2 at the end!! Back to the office tomorrow, though. :slightly_frowning_face:

New (virtual) bike day on Zwift. Adjusted saddle height IRL to get rid of some pressure points and saddle sores. Dropped it 6 mm two days ago - a tad bit too far as I was getting some IT band soreness during the first half of the ride. Much better after a slight raise.

It felt too easy on Tuesday night and I ended up with an IF of 0.92 for the VO2max session but tonight I was brought back down to earth and struggled to an IF of 0.86. After 12 mins in TT position a recovery block and another 5 mins in the TT position I sat up and that where it started to go pear shaped. I deliver more power in the TT position but don’t seem to get enough air in, so come up for it (its maybe psychological). After I started getting ragged it was well below target when I sat up, on or above when I was down and that led to a dropping cadence. After it I feel like I have been constantly shouting at a football match. Coincidently the Scotland game was on the radio but I wasn’t exactly shouting at it

40 minutes at 60% FTP keeping my DFA alpha 1 above 0.75.

AKA - a sub LT1 session

Whorl Today

first try the Pendleton,
it’s really hard and pain on legs…

A week ago today I took on and crushed Baird +2 so I figured Bashful +2, while not a cinch, would be doable.

HF, that was a few steps up from Baird+2. I got through the first set and took a backspin during the rest interval. Second set came, and during one of the rest intervals I took a backspin. During the second and last rest interval more backspinning and yes during the last set I took backspins during the rest intervals. LOL, when the cool down came…I took a backspin! I missed on one of the work intervals but overall my IF and TSS exceed plan. No shame, I did this and racked up considerable time in zone.

Golden Cheetah bins 20+ minutes of the power into the anaerobic bucket about 34% of the workout and 2+ minutes of V02Maxx power. Active recovery and endurance account for 57% of the workout – that is NOT polarized! TR calls this a V02MAX workout I think Chad has different ideas of the power bands than does Mark.

i got off the bike and mixed up some chocolate milk with Skratch recovery mix. I’m taking much more of that and with n=1 (plus with some “recovery breathing”) it seemed to help me with my sleep. Also plenty of yogurt and a dinner of spaghetti with a tomato sauce, some fruit, and a couple glasses of garnacha.

Junction -1 is next and a blessed recover week.
