Ericsson - Monday Evening

Started a new plan, did a ramp the other week and pretty sure I tested low… during house move/break etc I’ve lost 40w+, lowest I’ve tested for many years, would be okay with it if I thought it was in the ball park but workouts are far too easy. Know they aren’t supposed to push you every time but when heart rate is also so low it can’t be in right place. This one ended up at 114% with 18 minutes at alleged threshold and 7 minutes at VO2 max… and heart rate didn’t get above 85% of max.

AT can’t come soon enough so I can stop messing with the intensity percentage, yes I could do another ramp but hate them, think I have a mental block now as gone to deep too many times and don’t want to go there again!

I only do this to keep the weight off and keep fit, guess I’ll just have to wait patiently for AT…

Week 3 - Day #1 of current plan.

So far 100% compliance. But, you know, early days as they say!!

Also day 495 of the consecutive workout streak.

Not Stromlo +3. Wow - that really wasn’t gonna happen today. Recovery week was normal, but then I had the last three days off the bike feeling a bit rough after a covid jab - I thought I felt fine today and ready to go, but as I got up to threshold there was nothing there so pulled the plug. Did an hour’s z2 with Beech instead but even that was tough, with HR 10bpm above where it was last week. Guess I’ll just have to take this week to ease back into things - good to see my TrainNow suggestions are suddenly looking a lot easier!

First day of new training block. I scheduled Gammon as the kickoff. A little lower back soreness and tight right hamstring from snow shoveling but made it through with just slight discomfort towards the end.

Sheep Mountain. :sheep: :mountain: First hard day in the polarized plan. Yes I know it’s not officially released but you can’t tell me what to do. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Carson Wednesday Evening

After moaning about Ramp test and not wanting to do another one I started Carson at 120% and made the maybe unwise decision on the trainer after the first interval to try an hour power to get a more accurate FTP value to train with. Hard when you don’t know where you are. Almost held it to the end but started fading in those last 15 minutes, legs speed was going down hill!

Did this whilst climbing ADZ, first interval didn’t start until a minute after the ADZ start line so even though I had a finish line in sight, it wasn’t the finish on top until I completed the orbit at the top, made sure I got the hour effort in! Also did the ADZ climb in just under an hour so things aren’t too bad. Can at least move FTP from Ramp 279 to 297 (Intervals.icu recommendation for this ride) and see how workouts feel from there. Still missing 20W+ but at least that can be expected from my break… now time to put some work in to get those missing watts back.

Start dusting off the old threshold in anticipation of a Build cycle. This was nice and it was great to hear Laura Kenny on the GTCC Podcast.

Agree! It’s not been a bad little series actually with some good guests. Just need to get through the adverts. which I now know off by heart

Townsend yesterday again to keep the legs spinning and happy and then into a modified version of Darwin with progressive warmup and extended cooldown. All felt steady and manageable with just enough discomfort to make sure I kept focus on the intervals throughout.

On a related note - it was good to get confirmation from Nate in the AT thread that AT will recognise workouts created or modified in the TR Workout Builder and this functionality is currently being tested. I look forward to being part of AT when it arrives!

A very gentle introduction into tempo with Mont Albert early this AM. Not bad, a bit more engaging than a standard Z2 affair. Week one of TBLV2.

Tough session today

As seems to happen when I try and go super easy or have time off, the almost unknown to science rest-induced rhabdomyolysis type symptoms kick in.

I had Mon off, Tues 1hr Z1, Wed off - then this morning I got some painful twinges in my quads that went away after 30s. They started hurting again just before I got on the bike, and then hurt while pedalling easy. If I’m unlucky, the pain can reach a 9/10 and linger at a 7 or 8 for 30 mins.

I tried something that’s helped before - going hard for a while seems to flush out the pain. So 335w for 3 mins from minute 2! Pain in left leg gone, pain appears in right leg - 2 mins at 350w and it eased off. Really conducive for an easy session, hey?! I was planning to take tomorrow off, but don’t want another episode, so will try another short Z1 I guess…

Just got a Neo bike yesterday and figured it would be proper to break it in with a Baxter workout via TN @Nate_Pearson
