What workout did you do today? (2021, part 1)

The notes tell the real story.

Eclipse this morning. Garage was a little bit warmer so this was more… enjoyable?

Had to focus for the final five minutes as I could tell my form was about to slip. Listening to the TR Podcast made for a few laughs.

Good Morning … Did Echo this morning, used as a light tempo workout ~75-80% FTP. Feeling good throughout, HR at the bottom of my typical range for workouts.

That’s brutal.

I get wireless for outside, but I’m surprised indoor equipment doesn’t have more wired options available to avoid this sort of thing from happening.

Galena

Back to back 3 x 20 (Tray Mountain last night) . Rough night’s sleep so no time for brekkie, just a bar and a bottle of mix while on the bike.

Can’t say I enjoyed it that much, just too similar to last night. Had swapped out some of these sweetspots for longer Z2 previously, I might do that again next week if it’s a similar progression.

Have you tried Eclipse? Very similar but shorter intervals seem to go by quicker than staring at ā€œ19:59 to goā€

Baxter done. Watched stage 1 of the Tour de Provence ala GCN+. Nice to see some racing.

Felt pretty easy to be honest. Retesting tomorrow.

Thanks @sam.fuller1 I did it last week. Good idea to swap it out - didn’t occur to me, definitely easier to get through. I could just bump it up a couple of percent to match the TSSšŸ‘.

congrats. Just curious, why are you retesting? Don’t you have another week left in your plan?

yeah, i think the point is the volume of 2 hours. If it was 25 minutes at the end, would you do it? There is no such thing as junk miles.

5x5min VO2 Max, second workout in the VO2 progression that I started last week. NP of 313W for an hour (my FTP is 315W)!

I’m relatively new to cycling and can’t get my heart rate up nearly as high as I can running or skiing. By the end of these intervals I’m only seeing around 170bpm; not all that different than what I see at the end of a long threshold interval. But I’m doing VO2 Max at the highest power I can sustain throughout the workout, for sure. Digging deep to get through the final interval at the same power as the previous intervals. I think this means I need to do more VO2 Max…

Tested on Monday but think I ballsed it up by restarting heavy lifting the day before, plus a bit of confusion on my hardware. Apart from the effort at the time I don’t find ramp testing to be particularly fatiguing so it’s no biggie for me.

Completely agree. There’s also nothing stopping you bumping up a part of the recovery to z2 as long as it doesn’t affect the work. E.g. 2.5 mins z1 spin, 10 min z2, 2.5 mins z1 then back to the SS interval

Edit: forgot to tag @gwhilts

Legs felt heavy after Spencer +2 the other day but I rode it out.

It’s hard to call what’s worse - short, hard intervals that make it feel like you’re dying or the long sort of dull tension of long intervals right at FTP. Feeling like your lungs are going to explode is somehow more exciting than trying to not look at the clock over 10 mins.

Day 2 in my lil’ three day Z2 block in TBLV1, second week. Fletcher. This one felt a bit ā€œgrindyā€ - even with the podcast for company this was a boring roll today. Felt a bit tired, sleep hasn’t been great. I know I’ll see the benefit of all the z2. As I’ve continued to say though, it’s nice feeling like I’m progressing without constantly feeling beat down

Eyeing up those 1.75, and 2 hour sessions. I might take some of those outdoors and take the efficiency hit.

Today:

Later today I have Dade +1. I failed it on Wednesday and had to bail out mid-workout. Today I’m trying it again, hopefully I feel better. I completed Dade +1 an year ago with a similar FTP (-3 watts) and I know I can do it.

Baxter today. Unfortunately the assiomas have still not arrived, which meant another session of dealing with the painsled app stalling out every once in a while. Thankfully I’ve become adept at clearing it and getting it back to relaying power info quite quickly with little interference. But you can still see a few weird dips and surges where I had to fiddle with it. Another pain was my chamois which decided to not allow a single position of comfort for pretty much the entire 90 minute session today :expressionless:

Like on Wednesday, really enjoying the use of higher cadence with lower resistance. I think the lowest I saw was 90rpm and the highest was around 108rpm. Another finish feeling built and not burnt.

You and I are twins on our workouts today. Except the FTP. Yours is double mine! But same on the rpm 90-107.

Evening run. A bit timid with the ice everywhere but enough to get out there even if it’s pretty slow going
