Tour De Zwift Stage 3 Longer Ride. Not a replacement for Pettit! Sucked in. Again.

I ditched the long Z2 ride on the rollers yesterday, and instead went out yesterday for a 2:20 MTB ride in the snow, no plan, no route, just having fun, and it was awesome.
Today is usually a rest day, but I thought I’d at least get some Z2 time in. Then I figured, oh, a little SS wouldn’t be bad, either, and before I knew it, I had this half-baked idea of starting at 90%, then adding 5W every 10 minutes until the Rouvy route was done, so I ended up with 65min at an average of 315W
I want to do this again sometime with a longer Rouvy route, and see how far I can go. I’m looking forward to Bashful +6 tomorrow! ![]()
Usual 15 minute warm up immediately followed by a Ramp Test immediately followed by Pettit. Felt great on the Ramp Test, this is the first one where I felt I got my cadence flow right in coordination with my heart rate…meaning my legs were giving out at about the same time my heart rate was at max. Dips in Pettit before and after sprints were shoe adjustments (still breaking in my new shoes and the first pair with BOA dials).
Technically yesterday, but anyway…
Pleased with this as I was tired and not feeling like it. Taking on more carbs intra workout definitely helped.
I think backpedaling and/or taking a break during the rest intervals is perfectly okay. That doesn’t take away from the workout at all, in my opinion.
Got my hands on a set of rollers someone was giving away on Facebook… Just had to buy a new belt.
I have never ridden rollers so I was a bit nervous on spending more than a couple minutes on at first. Quite happy considering I only did two 5-10 test rides since getting the belt.
I’m in the middle of Sustained Power Build with this week being the down week so I thought no better time to give it a go… Got through one hour of Townsend but had to cut short due to kids being home from school.
Now just need to work up to being able to get a drink and then going clipless. Baby steps.
Had Moklumne +1 on the calendar before work this morning. Slept in. But, managed to get off work a couple hours early tonight. Came home and headed downstairs and got it done. Nothing quite feels as good as adapting and getting a workout done.
Man, I feel this. I’ve actually seen some of Chad’s notes saying as much. And, boy, do I need those 30 second breaks now and then.
Thanks for that! I appreciate that! I generally do what I can to finish up the ride without taking any more than the prescribed rest intervals, but that becomes tricky toward the end of the block …
Goddard today, fun varied workout that definitely made the hour go by fast. Looking forward to some sweet spot intervals later this week to see how my new FTP feels with some interval work.
Week 3 of SSBMV2 underway. Pettit to kick the week off yesterday but no need to share that…into Bluebell this morning.
I am not crying quite yet but it was a step up from Taylor -2 last week but still manageable. I also ended up tacking on 30 mins of z2 at the end to spin the legs out, dialling it down to circa 60% FTP rather than 65% as I am conscious I have a “social” Zwift spin at lunch time and we all know how “social” they can turn out to be…I set my peak power for the season at the social spin last week ![]()
Yesterday three hours sweetspot outdoors (-5 c) at 310 W (about 88 % of estimated FTP right now) to end a good four-day fatigue block. HR was a bit lower than I expected, about 78 % of max HR and 87 % of threshold HR. Now a couple of days off a bike because I am planning to do a 8 hours ride in the end of week.
Spencer +2, Can’t believe there is such a crank up in watts and interval time for SSB lv 2. Had to drop intensity by 4% to finish last 2 intervals. TOUGH.
Spencer +2 as well - slow-motion explosion. Dropped intensity for last 3 intervals, dropped out during all 3, went back at it - not pretty. If the objective is for me to be dead beat at the end, the objective has been met. Oh how I hate long VO2 intervals … and how they hate me back.
I’ll eventually make it up, but skipped Leconte & petit last week and started recovery week by taking 2 days off the bike. SSB2MV + + some extra aerobic work + extra week of festive 500 riding had me pretty cooked and I didn’t see the need to keep digging homes. Still averaged 9.75 hours over 6 weeks.
Petit yesterday and Fletcher today. Recovery week how I love thee.
