What workout did you do today? (2021, part 1)

Buttertub +5. Was hoping to do outside sweet spot but rain forced me on the trainer, tough but doable.

I done a open TT in the morning but stupidly let my pm go to sleep and mis paced it.

Given I still had energy and there was still plenty of the day left I dropped an impromptu tempo work out in for outdoors. I was quite pleased with my level of compliance to the workout. Except when I thought I’d lost something out of my pocket and I spent 5-10minutes out looking for it.

Mostly holding steady, which I will take over the alternative. As always, group ramp > solo ramp, thanks @jzhowie!

Just a 90-min endurance ride today, but with one effort to wake the legs up after 2-days off. I set a 60-second PR (638w). Cool.

Bluebell +1

Skipped one interval in the third set, cut short one in the fourth, and reduce the intensity 5% for the last two intervals. VO2 has been kicking my butt for the last four weeks. :triumph:

Mills

Legs felt tired and used after this one… final interval extended as I’d been doing KOM repeats on Zwift and decided to complete the climb even though I’d told myself not too. Spencer only a week away

Still playing around with new (to me) workouts to keep things interesting.

Super excited to see my TR Plan Builder plans update last night. Looking forward to getting stuck in. Lots of new workouts on the horizon :+1:

Monadnock +4 this morning.

I am happy to see the TR updates include the progression levels against workouts - I am in turn looking forward to seeing our personal progression levels in due course alongside the assignment of achievable, not recommended and break through status as todays efforts certainly felt like the latter.

Happy with getting through it relatively unscathed but it hurt at the time!

One of the new workouts was in my calendar, Wild Snow. I was wanting some TT practice but I was also expecting a delivery and didn’t think I’d have time. So I prepped the turbo. The package came on time though. So I quickly took the bike off the turbo and headed out. Too quickly I had the wrong shoes/cleats on and had to come back and change.

Given the delay I started the workout on the shared path, I usually wait until I am off it and over the footbridge and railway level crossing.

I’m quite pleased with how the bike shifted/ handled. I think thicker gloves protected my damaged fingertips and made things feel smoother :+1:

Stangate

Using my forte, anaerobic repeats, to lift up the rest of my fitness.

Second COVID vaccination yesterday afternoon. Nice and easy this morning.

No side effects from either vaccination. Think I got lucky :+1:

Pettit

Legs needed that rest…Little opener at the end to get HR up and flush the legs…
Pettit with season PRs

Avalanche Spire +2:

First over/unders since I don’t even know when, so this was An Experience. I think it felt right, unsustainable burn during the overs and recovery during the unders, which gives me some confidence in that new FTP

Ramp

Up from 305 to 320. Happy with that. Think I would have squeezed a few more watts out if I’d waited until the evening - legs were a bit sore starting off and gave up just as the lungs were starting to get going (10+ beats off HRmax). Still, very happy. I’ll be trying to fit some of my harder workouts in during the morning now so made sense to do the ramp at a similar time.

Darwin
Volcano orbits, moved third interval intensity up by5% to grab top of leaderboard with a couple of ramp/climb efforts

Rest day tomorrow

I had Pettit in my calendar today but I also wanted to take it outside. It’s one long 51min interval though which is a bit boring. Petit is a level 3.2 Endurance ride so I had a look around for something similar and settled on Bald Knob. Its 3.3 so I think it is a fair substitute  and Bald Knob at least breaks it up into 3x15mins intervals :+1: Routewise it was just one of my training loops by Glatton with a couple of stints on the Old A1 to make sure I finished out of town.

I had Pettit scheduled today, too and I have Bald Knob for Friday. But my App says Bald Knob is 3.6. I don’t know what that rating means, but it’s kinda interesting that they are different for different people.

Interesting :+1:

The extra 24 minutes due to my desire not to finish the workout in town raises the TSS.

The rating for each workout is static, so Pettit will be a 3.2 for everyone, same for Bald Knob as a 3.6.

What changes is your progression level; if your endurance progression level is a 2, and then you do Pettit successfully, your personal progression level will go up. Example below from my workout today. My Vo2 max level was 1, and then I did Taylor-3 (rated 2.6) successfully which pushed it up by 1.6.

Bald Knob is definitely a 3.3 for me :exploding_head:
