What workout did you do today? (2020, part 2)

First ramp test coming up this afternoon (new TR user). Legs still sore from the gym on the weekend. Go for it??

In principal, I would test early and often. In practice, I would rest another day or two.

My 2 cents

soooo i should have already taken the test and be resting is what you’re saying? :unamused:

Instead of Moosilauke (Tempo/SST/Threshold hybrid) I just did a custom SST workout.

Thought I was doing 50 mins TiZ, but once I was in the workout saw it was 60 mins - oh well! Nice to have a bit of pressure on the pedals. 5 hours later I just did a quick and easy weight session.

Sorry! But on the other hand 60 is better than 50

No probs! I was going to switch to resistance mode after 45 or 50, but felt pretty good so just saw it through to the end

Did the ramp test, way more enjoyable than a 2x8 or 1x20. Will definitely test more frequently using this method. 3.63->3.86w/kg. Hopefully pass 4.0 over the winter :slightly_smiling_face:

Slowly getting back into this training lark

Really surprised myself with this one. First couple intervals felt like sweet spot, so I nudged up to 103% for the third, and then 106% for the last, and it was all relatively comfortable? Which is not how I would typically describe (sub-)threshold and definitely not how the 3x12 last week felt, or even the freaking sweet-spot-n-stomp nonsense over the weekend. I’ve been pedaling through mud with burning legs for two months, this felt so good it was weird.

Enjoy the change of scenery

I’ll spare you the tales of recovery week. Just bumped all the workouts to get another 30 mins on top.
Sunday, did truuli -2 as an opener before monday’s ramp test:

Nice and spiky, eh!

Monday, Ramp test:

Back to “before injury” level, up from 214 to 225. Delighted.
Also, in two minds about “estimate FTP”
As I reached 214, it was motivational (c’mon, you’ve got this, from here on, it’s only pure improvement…)
As I reached 220, it become demotivational (you’ve done enough, why do you do that to yourself…)

Bout of lower back pain after rearranging rooms around the house, but still, I had a good night sleep, so today, I managed to motivate myself to hop on the trainer, convincing myself it would actually help with the back (didn’t hurt, but I can’t tell it did help either)
I had conveniently “forgotten” that it would be with my new FTP… cue, Ebbetts:

I was dying in the first set, and in the second, i was ready to bail out, but… I got rescue by my hero, mister DHL. Having to stop, open the door, etc, gave me the mental break I needed to soldier on for the rest of the workout. Fantastic!

As you can see I came to complete halt after the last interval. Almost puked and had to spit on my floor too. Brutal.

Warren. Man that dragged even with some Netflix accompaniment. Until I started Traditional Base I’d never noticed my Castelli bibs are a little too narrow in the pad (on the trainer at least). This plan finds all your weaknesses!

Been off the bike for 2 weeks and consistency has non existent last 6 weeks due to some extenuating family circumstances, so started back at SSB1MV today. Should have probably retested given my elevated HR but I’ll give it a few workouts to see if it settles down.

Bear Creek
Just an over under session for me. Suffered enough with this one last week and couldn’t bear the last over under set around the volcano so split the difference and turned around and did a volcano climb at FTP. Better than quitting early I guess.

2x20 at 96%. I did the same workout last week and the week prior all between 95-97% and this one my HR is 10bpm lower on each interval in comparison to both of the others. And based on my notes, it was nowhere near as hard too. Winning!

One of these days when you have unlimited power, no chain in the bike, your legs work truly like a pistons etc. 4x15@97% w 3min brakes. Ride was fueled by 1kg of lasagna before so proper nutrition
