Virginia, for the third and final time this week. Dare I say it, I’m actually looking forward to Pettit on repeat next week!
Started the week on Tuesday with a ramp test, FTP didn’t change much, went “down” 1W to 329. I suspect I test a bit low on the ramp test.
Followed the ramp test up with a ride on Rouvy on the Cura Nuova course, no real plan. For some reason, Rouvy seems to have short little sensor dropouts in the first half of the rides when using ANT+. It’s a bit better with the extension cable to get it close to the HR monitor and the trainer/power meter, but it’s still there. I tried a bluetooth dongle, and it worked fine with that, but it caused too much interference between my phone and the BT speaker.
Wednesday was an hour on the rollers at 225-230W, nothing exciting.
Thursday was supposed to be Ebbetts, which I changed to Ebbetts +1. Entertainment provided by Independence Day.
Friday was supposed to be a rest day, but I figured I’d squeeze in a short Z2 ride after a long and somewhat frustrating work day. I got warmed up, then got off for a few minutes because the music wasn’t playing right from the phone to the BT speaker, hooked up an AUX cable, and ended up riding the rest annoyed and a little higher than Z2. ![]()
Today was supposed to be Kaweah, which I changed to Kaweah +1 ( seems to be a pattern). Workout on the TR app on my phone, Rouvy on the laptop, Indian Wells 70.3 IM course. Felt pretty comfortable, added on 30min of endurance at the end.
I read somewhere that the power you lose fast, you can rebuild fast! You got this!!
Sorry @summerson and @Nope0337 for not producing the “perfect” graph. I’ll also keep my sanity and never do this again.
It’s all fun and games until you’re 2000kjs deep and Coach Chad dials up 18min of sweet spot
Thanks, I’m hoping so.
Not the perfect outcome, I had a tough time in Fireworks, but carried on with the sprints and just kept it at Endurance rather than SS so I could finish off the ride in full.
First time doing such a long ride either on a trainer or outside so fuelling was a first also. Felt great during and afteerwards with the exception of the Fireworks so I’m happy with that. Consumed 75g carbs per hour with homemade Malto/Fructose/ecectrolyte mix 800ml @ 66%/33%/1%, some nut bars and Soreen. plus a further 2 litres of water. Finished it off with a 30 minute brick run on the treadmill.
No cramps or pain during the ride in my legs but my shoulders did start to ache towards 3hr+. Not sure I will be attempting Disaster again anytime soon though. It was a tough one
Hey guys
i did leavitt +2 today after the first two weeks on Trainer road but i was wondering how it should feel… Felt extremly easy and my first ramp test was quite a drop (30watts) after beeing sick for three weeks and then just riding whatever outside. Should i retest after just two weeks in base? A bit confused if leavitt +2 should have felt harder
Wright peak -1 yesterday after glute and core work in the morning , decide to cut is short and stopped at 1h40 min and missed 2 x 10 min intervals I could have done them but Did not want to bury myself ! Now recovery week with still some strength work and hoping for a small bump ![]()
@Upupupthemountain Generally, Leavitt should feel “easy” with proper rest, nutrition and recovery.
Leavitt +2 isn’t that much different than Leavitt or Leavitt +1. All 3 of them are 70 minutes at 80-90% Threshold. The +2 version has a couple extra minutes of warmup, several extra minutes of cool down and the 70 minutes in the middle is mostly 85-90% instead of 80-85%. Not all + versions of the original workouts are “equal”, some plus versions will extend duration, some will increase overall intensity, some will add an interval, some will eliminate a quick recovery period in the middle of a long interval, etc…some will be a combo.
If you are consistent in your structured training AND it feels easy before, during, after and the day after of most workouts AND you feel that you have fully recovered from sickness…I think retesting is ok just 2 weeks into base. If the test is a BIG bump in FTP, like all 30W are back, be ready for 15% more work. ![]()
Obviously, these are just my individual thoughts.
if its supposed to feel somewhat easy I Think i´ll see how next week goes and then reconsider testing again, thanks a lot! ![]()
That’s been my experience for the last couple of weeks here in the UK. It’s unseasonably cold, so fan power is turned right down and the Vacmaster shelfed.
Even so, during long intervals it does become pretty uncomfortable having 0-2°C air blowing at your face and hands - nose constantly running! But turn the fans off to get comfortable and you starting dripping with sweat after a minute!
I’m loving the DHB light weight base layer (mesh) indoors at the moment for keeping me a comfortable temperature. I usually go topless, but it’s too cold for that at the moment.
Nothing much left after yesterday’s late threshold workout. Could’ve forced out a little more SST, but didn’t have much motivation after digging hard yesterday.
I’m not too bummed about it - probably made this week a bit too hard with 3 SST, 1 Threshold, 1 O/U, and 1 high Z2. Hopefully the hard work will translate to results after this block’s done.
Polar Bear +1 for today. The calendar had Geiger +2, but I wanted something a little more challenging after seeing everyone’s posts on doing Disaster and Rockhouse. I’ll have to budget time for one of those sometime in the future. Watched most of Oblivion on Netflix. A bit more than an hour in, I could feel my butt getting uncomfortable from the chamois being wet, fans were on full tilt, but humidity had still climbed to 80% in the basement room, despite the open door to outside (where it was raining and over 90%). I took my handtowel I use for wiping my head, put it on my seat, and rode the rest of the time on that, which actually helped a ton by absorbing a bunch of butt sweat (mental note - wash this before using again). My cadence dropped in the last third a bit, but no stops needed, pushed on through. Yay!
