What workout did you do today? (2020, part 2)

Antelope -4
Hit the desert and Titans Grove for todays workout after starting around the Volcano, little final effort to the top there was enjoyed on second interval, personal little race to the top! Not ideal on the TT bike but I hate drafting in Zwift, love it now I can steer around others and cut corners…

Finished final two intervals around tempus fugit, ETA on return put me close to the top ten for return leg, 500+ on the board so I ramped it up for final minutes and finished in the top 10, not bad for mainly a sweetspot effort. No PRs here as I use this course now and again for Ramp tests but good to put the TR flag there! Gave myself the last 18 seconds off the final interval for my hard work

Legs felt good, in that zone where they felt like they could go on and on…recovery required now for Wednesday OUs :grimacing:

West Vidette its my go-to fasted trainer session i normally hit twice a week during the base phases. Its a 45 minute endurance interval with no rest.

Taylor -2. Felt yesterday’s long ride in the legs, felt like I would be ready to quit before the second one, made it through though!

slight change to the plan due to work tomorrow! Decided to switch to SSB Mid Vol 2 as I felt High volume was to time consuming with everything else going on! Should also allow an outside ride when the weather permits :grinning:

Picked up a few extra watts and finally crossed over to 3.1 watts/kilo! My total raw watts are still very low and sadly, my trail rides do not seem to reflect this new speed, but to be fair, my lack of skill is proving harder to fix than my FTP :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:.

Then, I dipped my toe into sustained power build with:

It turns out I won’t be taking home the Darwin award today.

That felt really good. I was tempted to bump things up, but reminded myself I was curled up in a ball on pain killers just over a week ago.
Fingers crossed I can bump the volume back up with some longer rides this weekend.

(Mary is up next :upside_down_face:).

Palisade, I moved to O/U workouts to the first of the week when I’m freshest. Trying to balance the load and the fatigue at 66 y/o. No backpedalling, but got a little sloppy towards the end.

Hunter -1, legs were not feeling it at all today so cut it short after the first set.

Taylor +2 (Log In to TrainerRoad), found it absolute torture. I’m now in the last week of SSBMV2 and my legs are pretty cooked so just hoping to make it through the remaining workouts. Haven’t missed an interval yet and hoping to keep it that way, although I was really starting to lose form/cadence in the final 30 seconds of the intervals today. I sacked off the 2hr sweetspot workout on Sat to do an outdoor ride, did the intervals using HR but the ride ended up being >4hrs (135km at 32kph average over rolling terrain) so definitely took a bit out of me, hopefully will improve as the week goes on.

I always thought I was better at VO2max and anaerobic stuff and weak on endurance, but struggling to hold 120% of FTP for 3 minutes suggests my VO2 max is not high relative to my FTP

Welp, now it’s a party. Felt like a drowning fish by the end of each set, so I think I got the gist, more or less. Was pretty tired going into it because my go-to-bed discipline is terrible a personal growth area, but I think that kind of spurred me on. you did this to yourself, you dummy

(Also first workout with the new Android beta app!)

Worst Taylor +2 ever, you’re a beast

After four to five weeks (plus two weeks off the bike) of nothing even remotely close to VO2, I had this beauty on the calendar today. Boy, did it feel good to spin the legs! Didn’t hit top marks for every interval but I can honestly say that the last interval was as good, if not better than the first. Onwards!

Not an easy one :stuck_out_tongue:

Monitor +5. It might not be continuous, but 66 minutes of SS over the course of 76 minutes is a solid chunk of work.

Work will be interesting today after this. Will definitely be taking the elevator between floors! But–I think I did these pretty spot on. Maintained above 110rpm avg for all 4. Heart rate not as high as the 5min intervals on Sunday but the legs and breathing rate would tell you it was just as rough.

Vo2 at 5 in the morning is a whole 'nother monster…

Another 1x90 to build on last Tuesday’s one.

I think having done lots of Z2 lately, I’ve got a bit lax with fuelling. I ate all the right stuff at the right time today and it definitely felt easier. I got to a level of fatigue at about 20 mins in, and although there were a couple of peaks and troughs, I basically felt the same after 90 mins. I was so zen, I forgot to put any music on until 70 mins into the interval. Result👍

Back in the saddle - been running most of the summer, a few rides on the road, moved back to the basement as the snow and cold came in - although this week we have a textbook version of Indian Summer.

No ramp test (too lazy), probably going with too high an FTP; not quite used to the pain yet. Will get there. Maybe.

wow that looks rough, my Taylor workout doesn’t seem quite so bad in comparison

Quite nice again here for the time of year, it a recovery week though so I just slotted in the outside version of the low tempo Carter.

Ericsson but added some Zone 2 to the workout.
The left leg/right leg drills are a bit tricky with a L-only power meter. Next time I will switch to resistance mode I guess.
