What workout did you do today? (2020, part 2)

Wynne +1 outside workout, anaerobic efforts are always brutal…

Recovery Week :+1:

Lazy Mountain yesterday, Echo -5 today, things are good. Did this in my aero position from start to finish so that was a goal in itself.

Trainer went mental for the first 30 seconds and I started off pushing 300+ watts. I thought ‘this is going to be an interesting endurance session…’

This is the first ramp I’ve done since August where I didn’t feel like I failed the protocol, so I’m calling it a win even though the result didn’t move.

There’s been a noticeable shift in how the workouts have felt since then. I started off SSB1 with legs stuck in sludge and fighting for every pedal stroke, and I finished SSB2 (with the exception of a couple extenuating circumstances in the last week) not-quite-sailing through them. (Which obviously makes me wonder if the end of SSB2 is how they’re supposed to feel and I spent a month or so flogging myself pointlessly, or if that’s how The Process™ works. Almost two years on TR, still have no idea what I’m doing.)

Anyway, knowing I can work at this level and confirming it with a ramp makes me kind of psyched for GBMV, not gonna lie.

McAdie this morning. I felt it was more comfortable than it should have been and that can be seen by my under and overs efforts. I think it is time for a ramp test…

Palisade today:
(does anyone know what i need to change in the settings for intervals.icu to better detect the Over-unders?)

Last week I knocked out the rest of the Zwift Academy Road, just to get it done. It was OK I guess, a fun little distraction, but I’m not sure of the overall benefit.

Monday: Kolie Moore FTP Test (baseline)

Today: Boarstone

I have a 55mi outdoor fondo coming up on the 14th, so I used Boarstone as a pre-ride to check kit, nutrition, etc.

Tomorrow: back to Zwift racing! First one in a couple weeks.

I had fun with Taylor -2 for some 30 sec VO2 efforts.

Back to it. I was going to FTP test, but feel like my FTP is already set accurately enough for now. I had 2x45@ 90% in the calendar, but figured I’d claw back a few mins and do it all in one.

I finally put 2 and 2 together and made 4 after 45mins of Shortoff +4. The power meter has been dropping out or spiking quite a bit lately with no change of set up. Or so I thought, I suddenly realised there was a change it was the last update of TR. I toggled of ERG and there was no more drop outs or spikes. I had been doing that in my other sessions when the game thing started but never realised it was the solution

Edit the ride is definitely not getting included in my PRs, I was on a recovery and just tapping the pedals when it shot to 1000+w. Sprinting all out I can’t do much more than 800w

Geiger today with zone 2 modded recoveries.

Yesterday, I took Andrews and raised it by 20% because I am bad at math and thought that seemed like “just a little.” It basically transformed an endurance ride into something very different so I had to reduce it

Today, I did Beech and Pettit and decided that easy rides are my jam. Why can’t I get faster on just Beech and Pettit?

Geiger +2 today.

Short and sweet. I could get used to Recovery Weeks.

Well, that didn’t go to plan:

I had decided to change my routine, so got up slightly earlier, ate something straight out of bed, and then took some time to wake up before hopping on the bike.
Well, think again next time, cause it didn’t work at all. I felt super flat, RPE through the roof, HR likewise, dead legs, etc… but mostly, motivation completely missing. Maybe because I had given myself an excuse?
I don’t know. I’m slightly annoyed but trying to let it go.

Hopped back on to still try to get something out of the morning. with a quick taku:

Bald knob today+ some strength work . I love recovery week ! Next ride will be an outside one , weather forecast looks good

Gibbs last night

 :joy:

Check out what the great Graeme Obree had to say after completing a ramp test. Had to laugh…
