What workout did you do today? (2020, part 1)

Phoenix yesterday afternoon. Pettit this morning.

Tinker +5 today. This type of interval seems to really require mental toughness more than physical toughness for me. About two minutes into the first interval I thought there was no way I was going to finish this workout, but the gel I had after the warmup started kicking in and I was able to tough it out despite the 4:30 AM start

Palisade is indeed hard… keep in mind that it’s also 90 minutes. I seem to be more used to the 60 minute workouts at this stage of my just started indoor training (SSB2LV).

My legs hurt for 2 days after , but i’m sure it contributed to my increase from 262 to 278 in SSB1

Today some time for an extra workout, always nice to browse a bit through the catalog and choose a nice graph/profile:

going a bit wild with the cadance, trying to keep the target… tried OTS grinding and super speed 120-130 rpm, 90-100 seems to work best for my… But a total of 20 minutes @105% on a fresh bumped FTP is pretty hard with only 1 minute recovery for each 2 minute 105% block

Fit enough to survive Darwin this morning.

First workout after the 28W FTP bump, so of course, it’s a reminder of what it’s like to actually work. I don’t think this workout itself was hugely hard, but especially with 2 weeks of feeling like things were easy, it was a wakeup call again. We’ll see if the FTP bump sticks over the next week. I’m still a little nervous about it, but my HR stayed coupled and wasn’t crazy high (Max I’ve recorded is 194.) I know the FAQ addresses suspiciously high FTPs and basically says to stick with it until proven otherwise, so I guess we’ll see.

Bologna TT on zwift. My first time riding the course and definitely some take aways. I was happy with my basic pacing strategy but feel like a few more watts could be applied in places to bump me up the ratings a little. As this one doesnt split a b c d it’s a bit harder to see where I am relative to my “competition”.

2x8min FTP test => 213W
Confirming the ramp test I did last week (214W)

  • I’m a new Trainerroad sub. Thought the ramp test result was a bit high.

Taku! Damage control on an unplanned rest/recovery week (I know they’re not the same) - just had the energy to do something very easy today, my legs start to feel rough after two days or more w/ no pedaling, this helped. I got sick (again) this week, nothing major but enough to derail the plan. No worries - I just swapped this week for next. Hope to get back at it next week. I will go easy this weekend to recover. Life!

It was my medium day and I was pretty tired on the last interval. adjusted down the intensity accordingly to be fresh for tomorrow.

I did Darwin this morning. I was a bit psychologically stressed before the workout because it reminds me of Kaweah ( 5x10-minute intervals at Threshold with 5 mins recovery), which I only managed to finish 2 intervals before I had to quit due to fatigue… That was about three weeks ago, so the memory is still fresh. However, I find today’s workout quite manageable. Even with only 3 mins recovery, I didn’t feel that much fatigue and was ready for the next interval. My muscle definitely felt burning, but not the way that I was about to pass out.

Maybe I’m having an FTP increase? We shall see in three weeks. So excited!

Brasstown with extra 10min. cool down to finish out recovery week. Ramp test next week as I move into the second half of Sustained Power Build…lots of fun on the horizon. Actually, I’m looking forward to it!

I went a little bananas. Had coffee so I guess caffeine affects me. :man_shrugging:t4:
Also, I like cranking it up on the last interval.

Tallac -1 was up for today. Challenging but completely doable. I think this one was made harder by my gearing, I had to choose between either too slow cadence or slightly too fast.

Rough week this week. My worst day at work in a long time led to me skipping a workout altogether for the first time this season on Wednesday. So two days off, then this brute… just couldn’t rebound fast enough for that third interval, and the hard starts just brutalize the legs.

Still. proud of the mental fight to do some work after blowing up and then to rebound to give the fourth interval a go. Not perfect by any means, but got some solid work in.

So much for that idea.
Ride in jeans & t-shirt to the city (~8km - awful headwind, nice tailwind on the return) for ‘supplies’ (Paraffin wax & instant coffee #FakeCoffeeFakeCyclist)… and forgot to get printer ink for daughter (realised on the ride home).
Daughter still asleep on my return.
Realised I had time to walk into next suburb and get the ink, so did that (and a couple of things from supermarket).
Daughter still asleep.

Polar watch says I’ve done 348% of my daily activity goal. Currently 5:50pm (not eaten since 3am yesterday morning… ‘nursing’ the dental wound).

Ride into the city

Walking/shopping in city

Ride home

Round trip for printer ink

Erg mode still making it harder than it needs to be, but an okay session.

I forgot how much threshold work right after an ftp bump sucks. Survived 2 minutes at a time and reminding myself raising my threshold is everything right now (so that when I get to the end of a race I have some gas left)
