Lamarck early this AM before work while doing the Zwift Tour of London Stage 1. This was a tough slog as expected with lots of thoughts of quitting/backing off/ending early/etc, but managed to push through to the end even though I couldn’t quite manage the target power on the last interval. Mixed up riding positions between the drops, hoods and (clip-on) aerobars doing all I could to keep pushing. Target was my FTP @ 303W and ended up averaging 304, 303, 302, 298W (301.8W AVG) for the 40’ of work so not too bad first thing in the morning with no calories before or along the way.
Had to skip one of the intervals for time constrains (my last final). Also my first proper attempt at a full 2hr SS workout. Really started questioning why I choose to do this sport after the first hour.
Think I am going to swapout Andrews for an outdoor ride tomorrow, test some of my new winter gear as it should be around -2 degrees Celsius, low wind and dry conditions
cadence has been more like mid 90’s this year when I was closer to 100 last year. I wonder if that is causing my lower HR #'s this year… but HR says this was hard but not too hard.
Have a continuous 1500 swim scheduled for lunch time today.
Still on SSB HV1 week 2, but since we’re doing stuff Saturday which will have me away from the bike, I decided to do wright peak -2 today rather than the planned Pettit, I just felt I have some fitness momentum and rather than do an easy day and off day, thought I’d get in an extra tough day prior to the off day. Figured it was relatively safe in that while big TSS wise, it’s a manageable 85%. Definitely no problem completing it. I’ve done this a few times this month, but on Dec 2 my HR was averaging 150 and 154 on the last two 15min intervals, whereas today the averages were 142 and 145. Of course that leads to me overthinking whether I’m pushing past my established FTP or merely settling into it (I’ve had my FTP set at 275 the entire year)
With Kaweah I closed the second week of the sustained power build base level with satisfaction. I like this training plan and I like having to give everything I have to complete each workout.
Pallisade -2 dropped down to a 60 min ride due to a stressful week at work and not enough sleep. Listening to the podcast and reading the forum helped me see this as a success rather than a “failure” for not doing the 90 minute full version. Completed the hour at 100%
Switched out Andrews for a similar outdoor ride to test out new winter gear, quite nice actually to change up the indoor training with a ride outside. Guess I will be adding more of these type of rides from January onwards.
I manually cut Leconte down to an hour, but should have done the -2 variation. Lots of stuff planned today so needed to stop a bit early. As it was, starting a ride at a little over 6 on a saturday is not usually my idea of a fun experience. Hitting all time power PRs, so the base period is going well.
