I’m having pre-difficulties before my vacation! Dreading the ramp test scheduled for the 5th August when I return from a week+ of little exercise… Welcome back to the 'working week"!
once you pop you’re done, any amount of rest during the test invalidates the results I would think. Your number should be based off step 13, which would put your right around 300 ftp. I’d either stick with the number TR gave you, or redo it. Or just set your ftp to which ever number and adjust accordingly based on workout difficulty.
Did Stromolo +1 yesterday, figured it’d be a relative cake walk compared to the long threshold workouts prior in the plan, nope, total sufferfest…
Ramp test!
Up 17 watts to 270 after SSB2 low volume.
Down 2 pounds to 187 also. Now at 3.17watt/kg. Yay me ![]()
Eating better and laying off the beer has, I think (unfortunately…) made a pretty significant difference. Hoping I get close to 180lbs and 290 ftp before cross season starts. I’m thinking that should be enough to be towards the front of cat 4 races.
Tacked on Tunnabora -5 after the ramp test for good measure, cuz I was in a good mood and watching the tour.

May I ask what device are you using to connect to the IC7?
Mount Hayes -2, beginning of Century low-volume:
This was almost the first threshold workout I completed successfully in over a month. Almost. I think my legs had it, but failed to override my brain revolting against the heat.
(The zone 2 “rests” in this session turn the whole thing into a sadistic, extended over/under. Very stealthy, Chad.)
I connect using an iPhone 5 with an Ant dongle plugged into a lightening adaptor, or my gen 1 iPad.
It’s a simple plug in and play, it just replicates bluetooth and TR picks it up instantly. Super easy ![]()
Dongle & Adaptor
RIP speed sensor battery. Had to stop after first set to turn on the fan and once more before start of final set to raise seat a bit. No cramps but felt it coming on in right one. Starting to incorporate stretches post ride and throughout the day at work. It’s gotta be a fatigue issue, pretty much never have these issues when I’m doing them on Saturday mornings
Geiger +1 today. Felt nice to get back into sweet spot from threshold intervals! Group ride tonight, and rest day tomorrow before a big weekend. Got some 30+ minute hill intervals on Saturday and Unicorn -2 on Sunday ![]()
Rendezvous this morning. Wasn’t sure how this step workout would feel. It wasn’t bad at all, quite enjoyed it. I paired it with a stage ride on Zwift.
Baxter -1. First time into this fixed-gear, resistance-mode style. It’s been a long time since I did sustained 115-125 rpm work (the Tacx training programs I used for years had loads of those, somehow TR does not bring you there so often). It’s good mental and physical work, and an interesting change to look at the left side of the screen (power) rather than the right (cadence). But our body and brain do not forget - I settled into each interval, just stared a my feet for a minute or two, and found that I could maintain power right on the button. I guess the “Erg mode making you lose the ability to maintain constant power” thing isn’t true for me.
your LT can change, was that a recent test?
FTP is an estimate of your LT, so if you have an accurate power @ LT then use that.
Mount Hayes - 2.
Came as a bit of a shock 1 day after the ramp test bumped my FTP up slightly, but turned out far better than expected and managed to hang on.
Looks… lumpy.
Yeah lumpy and really, really sweaty!
IF .98 for a ~2hrs. You due for an FTP bump?

Holy F, my legs are singing right now.
Seems likely!
I’m pretty sure my last test was an underestimate (don’t we all say that
) due to high temperatures and a bad day at work.
Even allowing for new bike effect and the Quarq vs Neo difference, I’ll expect to bounce back up at my next test in a few weeks. SSB LV I at the moment so probably not much training zone effect.
Bit ‘stalker-ish’ but I couldn’t help noticing that we’re in the same neck of the woods. Haven’t been up Bredon for a while.

Really mixed bag this morning. I knew it was going to be uncomfortable in the garage so I prepared as best I could. Opened every door and took two chilled bottles with me.
Swapped out the recommended Fang +2 for Fang -1. Just couldn’t face that additional 15 minutes in the oven.
As you can see, my trainer kept spiking and I couldn’t find my groove. Heart rate monitor also packed in, again!
Worst of all, four minutes from the end, I noticed that I was going pretty light headed and then I swear I blacked out for 2/3 seconds.
Finished the session through sheer pig headedness but I’m knocking the high intensity on the head during this spell of weather.
