Today was Galena but the 3x20 were to done as a kind of ladder (easy, medium, hard). With one workout on the turbo (yesterday) after a 3wk break, well, my FTP is probably inaccurate for now. I had changed the intensity to 90% for the first with the intent of doing 95 the second and 100 the third. I didn’t workout that way. Still, I completed the workout.
Due to other activities – like cheering for the wife in her 5k and the daughter in her 1.8k at a local spring run (today was a holiday here) – I intended to swim after the bike. Except, because it was a holiday, the pool closed early. Thought about pushing the swim to tomorrow, but then I remembered I’ve a trip tomorrow (fly in the morning, back the same afternoon). Sometimes life gets in the way… (The pools do not open earlier enough to swim before the flight, but I’ll be doing my planned run tomorrow am.)
McAdie. McFML. The OTS drills in the last one broke me… I couldn’t regain 95rpm from 70rpm without the backpedals, and I was just burying my legs trying. So, I pedaled through the first 40s or so to hold the burn, backpedaled, and got going again.
McAdie here too. I ignored the drills but my PM dropped out during the penultimate over so I had to get off the bike to troubleshoot. There may have been some cursing.
Not easy, but way less punishing than I was expecting for 40 minutes at almost-FTP. I felt like I could have kept going for a while. Possibly should have kicked up the intensity for the last couple intervals.
Tallac for me last night, 45 minutes of sweetspot riding !
1 more week to go of SSBLV1 training and then I’ll ramp test. The intensity has been slowly increasing with more diffciult rides each time. Not sure if they are designed this way or it’s my fatigue? I suppose the result of my upcoming ramp test will tell.
I’ve had a lot of trouble sticking the training plan these last few weeks.
Started off by working 18 12+hour days straight. Managed a half workout after that madness then developed a chest infections and asthma exacerbation combo (not pleasant…) Yesterday I went for a 15km (short I know) outdoor ride with my fiancee… It felt great to be back on the bike again!
Did a shorter interval workout today. Plan calls for 10x1 minute, but I only did 5 since I’m planning a trail run for Saturday and I consider those as intensity days. Want to come in to next week with a bit of tension in the legs, but not fatigue.
Hunter (3x20 88, 92, 90%), it’s a good workout because it’s demanding but has generous 15min rest intervals. For some reason I feel insecure about having increased myself to 310w but I’m able to get through these sweet spot workouts (and not at my limit) so it must be ok! 20min at 285w is my 2nd best (on Mar 17 it was 300 but a lot more suffering!)
Had fun breaking in a new FTP for the second half of General Build with Thimble +5! I didn’t notice until after the first full set that it had been replaced with Thimble +4, decreasing intervals, but I felt great so no harm done.
I was a bit under target for the first two sets, around 5 watts or so. But crushed the last set. I’ve noticed VO2 work gets “easier” in a way through workouts. Maybe I should warm up more?
Did Clouds Rest +3 today and ended up bumping the intensity to 101% for the fourth interval and was still over the power requirements for each interval. This after doing my first outdoor VO2 max workout yesterday. (Which was SUPER fun!) May need to re-test or just bump it up a bit again.
Diamond-5. What can I say? I’ve never been so close to breaking. This is the 30 minute session and I was almost on my knees. Had to get off the bike and regroup before starting Ericsson.
Followed the leg speed drills in Ericsson and really enjoyed that session.
Taking a break from the XCO plan due to stress at work, and today I picked Carson.
This feels like a great workout for MTB - lots of slow cadence and sitting-standing-sitting transitions! Felt good so I notched it up to 105% by the end.
Fang Mountain + 1. Hard, but not as hard as I expected. Maybe time to bump up the FTP?
I just started SPBMV 1 1/2 weeks ago. Opted to skip the Ramp Test because up to this point its always told me my FTP is lower than its current value. I’ll see how the next few workouts go.
