I have been using TR again since the I got a new kickr for Christmas and seem to have hit a brick wall with workout intensity. I’ve only ridden a handful of times in the last 2 years and suspect this is where the prediction problems come from.
31/12/25 Initially TR predicted an FTP of 150W
31/12/25 Ramp test of 224W
15/01/26 Ramp test of 241W (once I’d blown a few of the cobwebs away
21/01/26 New AIFTP OF 280W (predicted to rise to 310 by the end of the prediction window)
The first workout at the 280w ftp was barely completed and logged as a maximal effort.
Todays workout of suprathreshold intervals was abandoned during the 2/4 interval as the intensity was way too high.
I haven’t been training on yellow or red days and fueling with 100g cards as that has worked well for me in the past.
It seems the ramp date is waaaay to aggressive. Maybe it’s seeing my previous ~350W FTP and assuming I will get back there quickly
My question is what should I do next? Trust that the workouts will be adjusted down? How many workout do I struggle through?
I would trust the adjustment but let’s not forget we can make choices! If I look at a workout and having failed two, I think the next one is still too hard then I’d dial it down myself. Maybe even do an easy ride or get on the road for the mental relief.
It looks like things have settled in with the AI FTP Detection.
I see you just started a training plan yesterday so let me know how this week goes!
Just so that I know, how did you pick last weeks workouts? As they don’t fall within the training plan. This can help me understand what may have happened.
Yeah they seem to have adjusted within a workout or two which is reassuring.
Last week’s workouts were part of a plan from the custom builder. I have been faffing with volume and training approach levels hence the new plan starting yesterday.
