I’ve been using TR for a while now in preparation for a TT that took place last weekend. I did well, 5 minutes faster than my best expected time. But now I have nothing on the sched, and after this week, no workouts on the calendar until I enter another event. I don’t know what to do. I have a regular Thursday night zwift TTT that’s just for fun. My biggest goal is fat loss and ftp increase of course. Any suggestions on what and how to target? Set some fake event 3 month from now or something?
If it were me I’d use that time to go after your goals of fat loss or ftp or both. You may use this time to experiment a bit. For instance, I found that my biggest ftp increases come through sweet spot base. After my only event of the year on October 17 I’ll take a couple of weeks off and just ride for fun. No structure. Then I’ll start SSB 1 then maybe SSB 2. After that I’ll start filling in any events that may be on the calendar next spring and start over.
You may find greater fat loss in SSB or in a traditional base plan. Build may be where you find the largest increases in ftp. You could do a shortened base cycle since you just came off of a season and then go into a build then start all over again for next season.
Maybe a few weeks of just chilling and riding for fun gives you the mental break you need to get back after training hard.
